Using a contextual approach, Wordly Wise 3000 students are taught to say unfamiliar words and identify any possible similarities to other words, use the word in context, break the word down into parts, and finally look it up. Three thousand carefully selected words taken from literature, textbooks, and SAT-prep books form the backbone of this vocabulary series. Each lesson begins with a Word List that includes pronunciations, parts of speech, and concise definitions, and uses each word in an interesting, contextual, sentence. Wordly Wise 3000, Book 7 is made up of 20 lessons with 15 words in each lesson.
In Book 7, vocabulary instruction focuses on preparing students with strategies to unlock the meaning of words they will encounter in content area texts, literature, and high-stakes tests. Comprehension of the vocabulary words is facilitated and reinforced through Greek and Latin word studies with an emphasis on prefixes, suffixes, parts of speech, synonyms, antonyms, and analogies.
This third edition features the same word lists as the second edition, however, the passages and questions that follow the passages have been updated and assigned measures from The Lexile Framework for Reading. Wordly Wise 3000, 3rd Edition is not compatible with 2nd Edition teacher's guides and resources.
Wordly Wise 3000, Book 7 contains 20 lessons; words taught in book 7 include: flabbergast, formidable, grueling, illustrious, lavish, maneuver, naive, perturb, replenish, smolder, ungainly, vulnerable and more. 216 two-tone pages, softcover.

Melissa R.5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent book!November 3, 2014Melissa R.Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is a great book to help build vocabulary and help a child with synonyms and antonyms. The book also has various exercises to really help a child learn the words in different ways. It also helps build reading comprehension with the short passage and questions at the end of each vocabulary lesson. I have seen my child's vocabulary expand greatly with this workbook! Thanks Wordly Wise!

Homeschool MomVictoria, MNAge: 35-44Gender: female1 Stars Out Of 5beware!Reading passages promote political agendaFebruary 11, 2014Homeschool MomVictoria, MNAge: 35-44Gender: femaleI thought the words and workbook exercises were good until i came across the reading passages incorporating the lesson's vocabulary into text. After attending seminar on the advancement of political agenda in our children's curriculum I was shocked to see several politically charged passages in wordly wise. They were written to elicit emotion to act in behalf of certain agenda and to persuade readers (who are our children) to feel shame if they don't support the agendas presented. One title of a passage in the book is called "Harvest of Shame" and promotes increased government agencies and unions. Beware of biased, persuasive writing marketed to our children but disguised as simply vocabulary exercises.
Q: What happened to the test booklet? Previous editions had one.
For the 3rd edition the tests are not available separately, but are only available in the "Wordly Wise 3000 Teacher's Resource Book".
Q: can you use the 2nd edition answer key with the 3rd edition workbook? I have the 2nd edition answer keys to these books but can't seem to buy the 2nd edition books. Will they still work together?
No. The 2nd edition is out-of-print and remaining quantities are limited. It is not compatible with the 3rd edition.
