In What Women Tell Me: Finding Freedom from the Secrets We Keep, Lustrea shares pieces of her listeners' heartbreaking stories and how these stories intertwine with her own never-before-told personal story that includes weight struggles, intense loneliness and a public divorce. Without having heard her listeners' stories, Lustrea's own victory and personal freedom would not have been possible.
"Confessing secrets is rarely pretty, but always freeing," says Lustrea, "and there appears to be a need among women in the church. There is a sickness of soul and it is epidemic. The root cause is the secrets we carry. We are bound up with secrets - the kind of secrets that weigh us down and keep us from being all God intended us to be."
Topics found in What Women Tell Me include:
- Confronting painful secrets and finding the courage to share them
- Seeking out true and healthy friendships
- Overcoming low self-esteem and body image issues
- Dealing with the stigma of divorce in the church
- Raising emotionally and spiritually healthy kids in a single parent home
- Identifying and escaping domestic abuse
- Opening your heart to Jesus so that healing may begin
Robin PraterMissouriAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Great book for women!!November 28, 2010Robin PraterMissouriAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Here is a book written by a woman, who has heard from thousands of women, writing to women of every age. Anita shares a candid view of friendships, and all that women desire and need. She tackles loneliness and depression. She grabs hold of the subject of beauty and what it really means to look beyond the shell that carries our heart. She takes us through her childhood into divorce and even relationships with family. This is a book for every woman. We hide so much. We put on a mask and no one really knows how we feel. Anita shares how it is time to let others in and take a chance. She explores abuse and sexual brokenness in marriage. This would be a perfect book for a small study. A great way to encourage other women to share beyond what we want others to think about us. This book is challenging and thought provoking. Anita shares stories of biblical women who struggled just as we do and teaches us it's okay to reach out and be real. I enjoyed this book greatly. It would be a blessing for any woman to read.
This book was a gift from Zondervan for it's review.
KMarieChicago, ILAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5It's what every christian women needs to read!November 18, 2010KMarieChicago, ILAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5What a refreshing book! I have been waiting for a book like this for a very long time! This book not only tells genuine stories from the life of Anita herself, but also of other christian women who openly share their own struggles and sin issues. This book has caused me to evaluate my own life as a woman who strives daily to be more like Jesus and also discover what secrets I'm harboring and how I can be REAL and allow other women to know that I'm not perfect! It's ok to show other women who I really am: a sinner, saved by grace through faith.

SparksTennesseeAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I intend to purchase additional copies of this book for friends. Anita, by telling her own story, has reached out to women on a very personal level, helping us to see that there comes a time when we need to unburden our souls with trusted friends.
