Publisher's Description

From the earliest years of his marriage, Paul Hegstrom handled his problems and frustrations the only way he knew how: with fists and fury. Talking about the problem only intensified his rage. Going into the Christian ministry didn’t help either, the guilt merely magnified his despair. Facing a charge of attempted murder and a prison term, Hegstrom got the wake-up call he needed. With professional help and an intense struggle with spiritual issues, he began the lengthy process of healing and recovery.Through a fascinating, yet thorough examination of the psychological components of various types of abuse, along with true examples from his own life and others, Hegstrom points the way back to wholeness and freedom. An invaluable aid for the man who batters, the woman who feels trapped, and the pastor, counselor, or friend who desperately wants to help them both, Angry Men and the Women Who Love Them offers straight answers for those willing to overcome the cycle of violence. The revised and updated edition includes a new chapter that discusses the physiological and psychological changes in the brain when abuse occurs.

I found this book helpfull and informative as to why people act the way they do, especially in dealing with their anger. I am dealing with a man who has deep emotional pain from when he was a child. As of yet he has not dealt with this pain in a Godly constructive way.

It also was helpfull in understanding why I have not been able to stand up and comfront the emotional abuse I have been getting for years. I would recommend this book to women who face abusive situations in their homes. Also for Pastors and church libraries as this is a spiritual issue that churches must confront in a loving way.

So many women live with men who are filled with anger that comes out of them in explosive waves of cruel words and physical loss of control. The woman they live with walks around on egg shells hoping not to trigger the switch that turns him into a raging loonatic! This book identifies a wide range of domestic violence and how much of it stems from shame, guilt and anger. It is a short book (140 pages) that is an easy read. Very helpful for women who need to know how to build healthy relationships.

I have read this extraordinary, and powerful book. It has given me hope, and greater insight about verbal abuse. I have never read anything before about rewiring of the brain. I know without a doubt that God has poured revelation and knowledge inside of the author of this book. Any woman who is going through domestic abuse should read this. Any man that needs to break the cycle abuse needs to purchase this book to be set free.

This book gives realistic & practical help for spouses of angry men (or women) and for the person with the anger problem. It is written in a empathetic manner while still making the individual accountable for his actions. The author's willingness to share his own story tells me how sincere he is in wanting to help others. I highly recommend this book.

I read this book cover to cover in one afternoon. I know my marriage is troubled & I want help so much. This book is both spiritually led & Practical. I understand much better now what I can & cannot accomplish, especially what my husband will have to do for himself. Please read this book even if you are not being abused, because every believer needs to be ready to help someone who has or is suffering abuse. and Pray for Me . . .
