Many women feel overwhelmed at the thought of reading the Bible in a year. Diane Stortz found that it is not only possible but life-changing. Her journey from initial reluctance to excitement about reading the Bible will inspire readers to try it for themselves.
Part of a women's group that read through the Bible each year for ten years, the author discovered the value of reading the Bible to get to know God better rather than viewing it only as a book to study. This guide will give women tools to read and discuss the Bible together, drawing them closer to God and each other.
Includes a week-by-week reading plan, discussion guide, lists of what to look for, and motivational quotes.
IreneUnited States4 Stars Out Of 5Help With Reading Through The BibleAugust 20, 2013IreneUnited StatesQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4I thought this book would have a little more meat to it! It is a decent book but not one of the best for understanding the Bible. It divides the Bible up into passages to read so you can read the Bible through in a year. I gave this book 4/5 stars. I liked that the book was geared towards women. I did however think that it could have used more substance. I would recommend this book for any woman who has not read through the Bible before. You will find the plan easy to follow and the author's guidance will make it easier to understand.
I would like to thank the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.
CherylVancouver, BCAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent format for a Bible StudyAugust 14, 2013CherylVancouver, BCAge: 55-65Gender: femaleThis is a book that I've been looking for. I've been reading the "One Year Bible" for the past seven years and was looking for a way to lead a small group through the Bible in a year.
Diane kept this simple - every week the same: a one page summary, a list of chapters to read and three questions to answer.
If only the book was for men and women! But I'm hopeful that the author and publisher will do the same format, but not just focused on women.
Christians - may I encourage you to put reading through the Bible cover to cover on your spiritual bucket list! Something you really want to accomplish. You will be truly blessed.
scruggleGeorgiaAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5A Good RoadmapMay 14, 2013scruggleGeorgiaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4I have never read the entire Bible. I have read bits and pieces but there are books of the Bible that I honestly have never even read the first verse from. I know it is a sad thing to admit but it is the truth and it is also the reason that I wanted to read A Woman's Guide to Reading the Bible in a Year. I figured that I could review the book and then continue to follow along and journey through reading my entire Bible in the span of only 365 days.
Needless to say, my plans did not match up with my reality and I realized that for a mother of three who works full-time and attends school full-time and who writes online articles and book reviews and who enjoys recreational reading and is involved in other activities, that reading the Bible in a year is probably not a good goal for me. Reading the Bible in, say, three years, may be a more realistic goal.
With that all said, I suppose I should begin my actual review, huh? Well, this book has a beautiful cover and is a welcoming read, making you want to dive in and begin your study. The book is created to be a guide and also a journal to log your experiences as you read through your Bible. The book touts to be a good choice for individual and group study but after reviewing the book, I found that it would be better suited for group study although I do plan to use it for my own personal study as I attempt to read through my Bible at a slower pace.
I received this book free of charge from the publisher in exchange for my honest review
melzNYAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5This is a great Bible reading planMarch 25, 2013melzNYAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Have you ever tried to read through the entire Bible in a year? Have you ever used a Bible reading plan to guide you and found that you still could not read through the entire Bible? I have been there so when I saw Diane Stortz's book, A Woman's Guide to Reading the Bible in a Year, I was really interested in finding out if maybe this time there was a guide out there that would get me through the entire Book. And I have to say that Mrs. Stortz's guide is not only feasible but it really allows you to read and reflect on the Scriptures you are reading.
Mrs. Stortz divides the readings into 52 weeks and gives a little background on each Scripture subject for the week. After each reading, there are three questions that are designed to get you to reflect on the Scriptures you just read. At the end of the book, there are resources for the reader to use as she journeys through the Bible. I found this section helpful in ascertaining additional materials to help me understand Scripture. There is also a reading plan checklist at the end of the book for you to keep track.
In sum, I recommend this Bible reading guide to every woman. If you want to read through the Bible this year this is a simple plan that really emphasizes the reflection and understanding of the Word.
Note: I have received a free copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for a review.
MarisaKenora, OntarioAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Strongly Considering Using this in a GroupMarch 21, 2013MarisaKenora, OntarioAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This book starts with several blurb reviews and then an explanation as to how the book came to fruition. At 140 pages it is a quick read. It encourages women to read the Bible through a year in a group setting or alone. It has excellent ideas about forming a small study group and what the discussions should be about. Each day of the week has a portion listed for reading so if you do decide to use this book in a group setting everyone will have had the opportunity to read the same portions of the Bible.
There is a place for writing something you learned or would like to remember, a place for a favorite passage or quote and a place for questions you may have for either a group or to look up on your own if you are reading this book on your own.
The book is broken down into weeks and not dates so you can start any time throughout the year at "Week One" which is different than many books or devotionals as they have a date which tends to feel like a chore and learning about the Lord shouldn't ever feel like a chore.
Though I have obviously not had this book for a year as it is copyright to 2013 I am planning to use this book to read my Bible through a year as I have been looking for a simple program to use. I really detest the Bible studies that make me flip flop back and forth throughout the Bible taking up precious time turning pages and this study, though it isn't read in "order" it does only give one place to find each day. For example, the reading for week 35 is
Titus 1-3, Philemon
This week has a small one page description of what you will learn this week, each of the weeks seven days has a specific portion for reading on the topic that the description gives. One week is literally, two pages. The left side being the description, the right side being the place that has the listed reading and a place for your notes, which I find to be a very excellent layout.
Q: Which version of the Bible does this correspond to?
Quotations are taken primarily from the NLT and NIV, however any version can be used for the daily and weekly readings.
