This book takes the reader into the lifestyle of a pampered socialite whose dream life comes crashing down when her cattle baron husband is arrested for fraud. The story delves into the family and friends whose lives are shattered by greed and broken trust. I found the story to be inspiring as Claire struggles to keep her family intact and struggles to survive the challenges she is forced to face.

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher, through The Book Club Network (bookfun.org) in exchange for my honest review.

A Woman of Fortune by Kellie Coates Gilbert isn't what you think. Claire Massey has lived a life of wealth, a good family, serves on committees, does charitable events and her world crashes. At a political fund raiser for their future son-in-law, after her husband has donated over a million dollar donation and while still on stage her husband is arrested for fraud. Her daughter and sons are heart broken, Claire is in a state of shock. The more she learns the worse it gets. Follow Claire has she tries to put her family back together, decides what she has to do with the rest of her life. The story sounds like something straight from the Headlines of any newspaper in the past few years.

This is the first book I've read by Kellie Coates Gilbert but it won't be the last. By the time I read the first chapter I was totally engrossed in this book. When things start looking up for this family suddenly something else comes crashing down.

Woman of Fortune by Kelly Coates Gilbert is a story about some serious family issues. Even though this deals with a very rich family, the book held some truths most of us could take away from. At first I didnt know how I felt about Claire Massey. She seemed like the typical married woman of fortune and I didnt really like how after 30 years of marriage she could have been so clueless about her husbands business dealings and her 3 adult children. However, as the story progresses and she is popped out of her protective bubble, she takes a real hard look at her life. I began to feel for her and the fact that her entire way of life was being ripped from her. Her husband is taken away from her and two of her children are angry and withdraw. However, one child does step up, the one that always seemed to be the black sheep. Through it all though, she realizes just what is important and what love really means. I really liked this book even though it was like watching a train wreck. This does not have your happily ever after ending, but it does have the right ending. I really liked how the author made marriage very important. I already have the second book in this series on my wish list. I received this book from the The Book Club Network, Inc. (TBCN) and the opinions are my own.

MY REVIEW- This was a disappointing read for me. I was SO looking forward to reading this one, and I really wanted to like this book. I didn't connect with the characters. The daughter, Lainie was a spoiled brat. She didn't realize how important love was. Power and prestige were all that was important to her. The only character I remotely liked was Max. He did seem to care about his mom, Claire. He was the only one of the three siblings that went to see his father, Tuck, also. Brian is a character that I totally disliked. So much that was in this story just didn't seem to belong in this genre.

The one redeeming quality was that the book did show that wedding vows are important and mean something. They aren't to be just easily pushed aside.

I'm a rarity in my review of this book so be sure to check out other reviews. If you like political intrigue, court room drama, and stories of rich socialites then you just might enjoy this. It just wasn't my kind of read. The great thing about books, is that there is a wide variety. There is always something for everyone.

This book I received through bookfun.org for my honest opinion which I have given.

I received this book to review from the publisher. Woman of fortune is about a society woman who loses everything after her husband was arrested in a Ponzi like scheme. What I loved about the main character Claire was her fallibility as a woman who trusted her husband. She is never expected that her 30 year marriage and family would fall apart. I loved how she grew from this experience. I wanted to slap some sense into the older son and daughter but I realized they are the products of their inclusive culture.

The lessons learned is that the love of money and what it brings can never replace God in our lives. Because God loves us so much he will allow us to go through things so that we can see our need for him.
