The Life with God Bible (formerly published as the Renovaré Spiritual Formation Bible) seeks to recover the dynamics of Scripture for the spiritual transformation of the people of God: past, present, and future. It provides a view of God’s community through history, the ups-and-downs, ins-and-outs of a with-God life. While other study Bibles serve as resources for sermon exposition, higher criticism, or personal devotion, the The Life with God Bible helps us capture the reality of living with the Trinitarian community in the ever-present kingdom of God. It recasts the Bible as the primary written resource for informing our minds and transforming our spirits in Christlikeness.
As part of making the Bible more accessible for the process of intentional formation in Christlikeness, The Life with God Bible includes:
- Major essays and graphic representations highlighting 15 expressions of the With-God Life
- Essays and notes for each book of the Bible
- 50+ character sketches giving a sense of the ways key Biblical figures lived with-God
- An index of places various spiritual disciplines appear in Scripture
Other features include:
- Does not contain Deuterocanonical books
- Two-color maps
- 7.25" x 5.00" x 1.50"

The Life with God Bible combines the depth of a study Bible with the warmth of a devotional Bible, offering a new way to discover the full riches of the Scriptures. According to Richard Foster, bestselling author and the project′s editor, the Bible is all about human life "with God." As we read Scripture, we should consider how God is with us in each story and allow ourselves to be spiritually transformed.
Many people are looking for a new way to read the Bible, not as a text to be mastered. but as a story to enter into and a lifestyle to pursue. This unique Bible, previously published as The Renovare Spiritual Formation Bible and spearheaded by bestselling authors Richard Foster (Celebration of Discipline) and Dallas Willard (The Divine Conspiracy), introduces the concept of life with God - or the "with-God life" - a model for seeing the whole of Scripture as the unfolding story of God′s plan for our loving relationship with the Creator. This central theme weaves throughout the essays, introductions, notes, and exercises, powerfully revealing how God is present to his people today and throughout history.
Yet our relationship with God should not be passive. Concrete practices - Spiritual Disciplines - have been used throughout church history to guide disciples of Jesus. This Bible integrates the Spiritual Disciplines into the Christian life by showing how they are central to the Bible′s teachings and stories. Abraham and Ruth, Moses and Deborah, Jesus and the disciples all provide amazing examples of the life-changing power of prayer, worship, fasting, celebration, and many other Spiritual Disciplines. Scripture thus becomes a primary means for the discovery, instruction, and practice of these disciplines as well as a tool for spiritual formation.
Combining the highest possible biblical scholarship with the deepest possible heart devotion, this new Bible project seeks to nourish inner transformation by unlocking and revealing the profound resources within Scripture for changing our hearts and characters and bringing them in line with what God wants for our lives. The Life with God Bible will redefine what the Bible means for Christian discipleship.
Renovaré (from the Latin meaning "to renew") is an intrachurch movement committed to the renewal of the church of Jesus Christ in all its multifaceted manifestations. Founded by bestselling author and well-known speaker Richard J. Foster, Renovaré is Christian in commitment, international in scope, and ecumenical in breadth.
Richard J. Foster is the author of several bestselling books, including Celebration of Discipline, Streams of Living Water, Life with God, and Prayer, which was Christianity Today's Book of the Year and the winner of the Gold Medallion Award from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association. He is the founder of Renovaré, an organization and a movement committed to the renewal of the church of Jesus Christ in all its multifaceted expressions, and the editor of The Life with God Bible.
Dallas Willard was a professor at the University of Southern California's School of Philosophy until his death in 2013. His groundbreaking books The Divine Conspiracy, The Great Omission, Knowing Christ Today, Hearing God, The Spirit of the Disciplines, Renovation of the Heart, and The Divine Conspiracy Continued forever changed the way thousands of Christians experience their faith.
Eugene H. Peterson, author of The Message, a bestselling translation of the Bible, is professor emeritus of spiritual theology at Regent College, British Columbia, and the author of over thirty books. He and his wife, Jan, live in Montana.Dr. Bruce Demarest is professor of theology and spiritual formation at Denver Seminary.

You both get in-depth notations in the commentary as well as devotional insights. It doesn't tell you how to think, but poses questions to you to think about. It has some great character profiles that not only present facts but get into psychological aspects of the Biblical characters which is interesting. It also has some great spiritual disciplines that help you to live your life more in harmony with the Bible. The layout is great and while the Bible is small (one of its best features), it's still highly readable. This Bible has some great content and will be very helpful in your spiritual journey. The imitation leather has a rubber feel to it that holds it in place on the table. The book lays flat for the most part as well. The only problem could be that the inside flaps of the cover are paper and don't look too durable but only time will tell if they stand up to normal use or rip (which would separate the cover from the spine. Also, when it comes to the imprint, consider this Bible is DRY STAMPED on the spine and the pages are NOT gilded. Therefore the name would be the only golden thing on this Bible. I wish I'd known that before purchase but it still looks alright. But I would recommend this Bible without hesitation for in-depth study and for personal devotion.
Milton Jantzen4 Stars Out Of 5July 4, 2010Milton JantzenBought as a gift. Nice, smaller size reprint of the "With God Bible" I bought some years ago. Given to a younger person; my aging eyes would have a hard time with the smaller print!

Jim Freed5 Stars Out Of 5October 14, 2009Jim FreedI am very impressed and pleased with this bible. Buying bibles on line, which I do frequently, is somewhat of a gamble. I have purchased compact bibles that have such small print that they are uncomfortable to read. This bible is beautiful. The cover is soft and attractive, the print is clearly readable and the size is perfect. I like the way that it fits in my hands. I have the Spiritual Formation Bible and this contains all of that information plus a concordance. Its potential devotional usage is extordinary and I would highly recommend it.
