An enjoyable 3rd book in the Westward Winds series. This is the story about the youngest Harding sisiter. Elizabeth has just graduated from medical school in the east and comes out west to Wyoming to start her practice in Cheyenne where her older sisiters live. She faces the many prejudices of the people in the years before Wyoming was a state. Word of mouth can be both benifical and harmful. This book also continues the story of Gwen who we meet in the 2nd book.
Elizabeth has been so focused on studying that she has not assed what her life will be likein the future. When she starts having romantic feelings, she struggles with what God really wnats from her.
The story shows God's faithfilness, when we stop to listen to him.
I enjoyed the medial parts, showing how knowledge has changed the way medicine was practised. Sorry that this series is finished.
E. M. Harding, M. D. is a woman? Jason Nordling, attorney-at-law, is speechless and it's never a good thing for a lawyer to be at a loss for words. Dr. Harding is not only a woman, she is an attractive one and has opened her practice on the other side of the building from Jason's law practice, in the quickly developing city of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Jason cannot imagine that the quick-tempered, sharp-tongued, independent beauty will last very long in a profession that has long been held by men, but apparently she is determined to try. Perhaps he can be a gentleman and rise to the occasion to help her maintain her reputation; after treating women at the local bordello and spending days nursing him back to health, the town gossips have threatened to scare away the few patients that Elizabeth has gained.
Elizabeth Harding has been waiting to open her own medical practice for years and Cheyenne seems to be the perfect location. Within months she will be re-united with her two sisters and their husbands after several years of separation. But will all the citizens of this growing town be as bristly as her next-door-neighbor? Elizabeth has no aspirations to be a wife and a mother; only a healer, but as she develops a more cordial acquaintance and then a growing friendship and quite possibly an attraction for Jason Nordling, all kinds of doubts and dreams begin to enter her mind.
"With Autumn's Return" is an enjoyable read with several unexpected twists and turns; all while telling a wonderful story that concludes an exceptional trilogy by Amanda Cabot!
Elizabeth Harding has arrived to set up her medical practice in the city where her two sisters live, but struggles to find acceptance since she is a woman. Will she ever build a reputable practice? In addition, Jason Nordling, the lawyer with an office next door, also appears antagonist to her career choice.
Secrets, murder, love--Elizabeth finds many challenges in her new community. She has decided she will never marry because of the demands of her medical profession, but perhaps she can be persuaded otherwise. This enthralling novel offers a fine story and an authentic study of human nature. The third book in the Westward Winds series, it can also stand alone.
With Autumn's Return kinda started out like a typical historical novel but it didn't exactly stay that way. I was totally not expecting the murder mystery near the end, it was a great who-done-it within a historical.
Amanda Cabot has written a great story of love, friendship, and family. There is a wide variety of characters. From the adorable little girl named Rose, to a man raising his daughters on his own, a spoiled gold-digger, and a loving mother that just wants a sibling for her son. Each with their own story and foibles.
I think one of my favorite things about the story is that, while Elizabeth knows she is called to be a doctor she still struggles with some of the things she has to give up in order to do so. Will Jason be able to see beyond his prejudices and be able to show her Elizabeth the woman?
Another neat thing was the setting of 1880's Cheyenne, Wyoming. It was interesting since it is not often that particular city makes it into stories.
If you love historical novels where a girl has to beat the odds and has a touch of mystery than you are in for a treat in With Autumn's Return.
(I received a copy of this book from Revell through The Book Club Network for my honest review. All opinions are my own.)
