After the death of his parents, Jake Samuels has enough on his plate including a fledgling church to lead and a mischievous younger brother to raise. The last thing he needs is a rambunctious woman to contend with.
Carin O'Malley is dealing with the death of her brother and a new job as an English teacher at East Ridge Middle School where Corey Samuels reigns as King of Chaos. The last thing she needs is to fall in love with a man...especially a handsome and complicated preacher like Corey's brother Jake.
But when Corey's antics toss Carin and Jake together, the two must draw from God's wisdom to find refuge in His perfect plan for them.

Mary Manners shares with readers a tale about Jake and Corey, with hearts filled with pain as well as Carin who is struggling to let the past not be her present or future. That is not all there is in the tale; there is sadness, but take heart that isnt the point at all. The main point is how God wipes away our tears and renews our hearts when we spend time alone with Him. One aspect of the writers novel I really appreciated was dealing with hard topics and heart topics in a way that stirs hope and lights a path for readers.
There is romance in the story too; one based on friendship which blossoms to love in time and on each persons daring to draw near to God. Carins character is an English teacher in an elementary school who moves lock, stock and barrel in order to leave painful reminders and start new in a town with no family members and a new job. Jake is a young man who pastors a small church. His biggest task though is taking care of his younger brother Corey since losing his parents.
I dont want to spoil it for you why the novel is titled the way it is, but lets just say I wish I had that view each morning or evening. Following the epilogue is a 31-day devotional to encourage readers to be still and know He is God, including pages to write whatever is brought to your heart or mind. As I read, I was reminded the Lord used different life experiences to teach me His wisdom and that wisdom is gained by not relying on me. The Wisdom Tree is the first novel by Mary Manners I have read and I look forward to reading more of her work in the future.
JeanWest Palm Beach, FLAge: Over 65Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5A Very Pleasant ReadAugust 6, 2013JeanWest Palm Beach, FLAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I received this book from the author through book fun.org in exchange for my writing a review. I had no idea as to the topic of the book, so I began it with no expectations. From the very beginning of the story, I was delighted to get drawn into the lives of the main characters. The author opens the story with the amusement of Pastor Jake's mistaken identity, by Miss Carin O'Malley, but formed the hint of guessing (and hoping) that these two attractive people will become an "item"...and they do. Pastor Jake has taken over the responsibility of completing the upbringing of his younger brother after the death of their mother, along with being the Pastor of his local church. I loved that the author had this story move quickly. She did not drag the story on, but allowed you to know right from the outset that there was a "spark" between teacher and pastor. As it moved along, you also waited to hear what was being "held back" from being revealed about Carin's past. I loved how the characters' relationship with each other was not prolonged, but moved steadily forward, and even after realizing that Carin was keeping something about her past to herself, the "secrets" were not withheld for a long period of time, but allowed her to take stock of her silence and how it was affecting her relationships with both Jake and his brother, Corey, who now, had grown fond of Carin.
I really enjoyed this book....a lot, and recommend it highly, as a "quick read", and a "feel good" completion.
LalaAge: 18-24Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5A Great Read About The Path of Healing!July 11, 2013LalaAge: 18-24Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4I enjoyed reading "Wisdom Tree" because it had a steady plot and didn't leave me hanging. Mary threw in some suspense mixed with good romance.
Not only that, but she had some great characters who really stuck with me! My heart ached for Corey, Carin, and Jake! They had such a difficult walk to go through, but God truly helps us to heal.
My favorite part of the novel is when they go to the Chinese restaurant and they get their "fortunes" when really they are Bible verses! I loved that and so wish we had Chinese restaurants do that!
Also the devotional at the ending is amazing! I would simply buy this book for the devotional part! They are so simple , but yet so touching! It definitely opened my eyes to many things in my life!
I received this book for free from Bookfun.org in exchange for an honest review !

I was kind of surprised when I realized it was ending, then I realized that there weren't any loose ends, so I was okay with the closure, haha. The characters were well-developed and the storyline had enough drama and intrigue to keep me interested. I would recommend this book to my other reader friends.
I received this book from bookfun.org in return for my honest opinion
RebakaAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Wisdom TreeMay 9, 2013RebakaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The Wisdom Tree is a book of loss and love. It shows how healing can become complete with God's help. Jake, Corey, and Carin all have their issues but together they seem to complete each other. Once I started this book it was very hard to put down. I hope there will be a sequel to this story as the ending has so many possibilities for one. I would love to see into the future with these characters.
This is the first book by Mary Manners and it definitely won't be my last.
This was given to me by bookfun.org in exchange for a fair and honest review.
