The best of all homeschooling methods,
The Heart of Wisdom Teaching Approach is based on a variety of teaching approaches. Beginning with the Bible, a Hebraic model of education is employed, where the Bible is not viewed as a secondary subject, but rather as the basis and measure for all else. Charlotte Mason's methodology is also taught, using living books & oral narration, unit studies, notebooking, delight-directed learning, the four-step cycle and more.
Rethink your entire model of education with enlightening chapters on the foundations of various worldviews, practical advice on how to implement "Bible-Based Homeschooling", an overview of different ways to learn and more. 504 pages, softcover.

The Heart of Wisdom Teaching Approach is like no other book that I have read. It talks about a totally different approach to homeschooling. Ms. Sampson's main premise is that "the Bible is the center of Christian education ... students spend a large portion of the school day studying God's Word, and the other half studying God's world in light of His Word." (quote taken from the back cover of the book). Her approach uses the Charlotte Mason method of teaching - using living books, delight-directed learning, copy work, narration, etc. Unit Studies are the main vehicle that Ms. Sampson uses to home school her children and she explains the value of unit studies in this book. Writing to Learn and Note booking are also considered important methods for children to use in their studies so that they can remember the material they are studying.
One of the best sections of the book is Section Five: Resources. This is almost 150 pages of AWESOME information on how to create a unit study, how to choose and use resources as well as lists of History and Science resources by year, Life Skill Resources and Classics to read listed by Grade Level. This 150 page section is worth the price of the book - so much here for me to consider working into our studies (i.e. substituting for other books that I don't like or adding as extra reading, summer reading, etc.).
I think this book is very practical and worth purchasing. Ms. Sampson even talks about the different learning styles and how the parent can use this knowledge to adapt their lessons to each individual child. That's the beauty of homeschooling for me - that one-on-one approach that I can take with my two children. I can individualize their studies to suit their needs. The Heart of Wisdom Teaching Approach shows me how to do this step-by-step!

It is really excellent. I highly recommend it to those of you who are looking for a lifestyle of learning which leans heavily on the Word of God for the "main course" of your curriculum. www.heartofwisdom.com
Robin has created several unit studies on different topics such as: Wisdom, From Adam to Abraham, Biblical Holidays, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Creation, Light, Energy, etc. She also encourages you to create your own unit studies.
She goes into how the Greek and Roman classical style of teaching is still used in public schools today (as well as many homeschools). She describes the Biblical/Hebraic model of education which is more in tune with what Christians want for their children. It's fascinating reading. It's a huge book with many resource lists at the back geared for different age groups. My oldest is in grade one. Her approach goes from K-12, with modifications.

The book has more than 500 pages of just what any homeschool is looking for. The author has created a must have book. Insightful and easy to follow. The resource section alone is worth 10 times the cost of the book.

Robin Sampson put an amazing amount of time into the planning and writing of this book! So far, I've been very impressed. The premise of the book is that we should be using the Bible as our main "curriculum resource" and everything else should just fall in behind. The first section of the book is entitled "Lessons from Exodus". I've only read the first 4 chapters so far~ but I'm amazed at how Robin ties homeschooling in with the story of the Children of Israel. I never would have thought of it~ but the comparisons are so true!
I would highly recommend the book just for the small part that I've read so far. It's been such an encouragement to me to think that any struggles that I've faced in my homeschooling journey are shared by many; and that, by putting my complete trust in God and surrendering our homeschooling to Him, He will accomplish great things. Please click on the Heart of Wisom link in my sidebar for more information on how you can get this book for yourselves.
To hold you over, I don't think Robin will mind if I share just a few "smidgens" of her writing that really stood out to me:
"I found that true wisdom is available only by spending a significant amount of your homeschool time studying and teaching God's Word."
"Academics are important, but only as they sharpen our focus on the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. Academic subjects are important tools--but they are only tools."
"When God gives a mission, he supplies the means to complete that mission!" *think Moses~ remember how he didn't feel he was qualified? Have you ever felt that way in regard to your homeschooling?
"Those whom he calls, He equips. He knows what your children will face in the future, and He will give you what you need to educate them in the way they need to be educated. Just trust in Him for what you need."
