The Little House books tell the story of a little pioneer girl and her family as they traveled by covered wagon across the Midwest. Laura Ingalls Wilder's classic books, illustrated with Garth Williams' timeless artwork, have been cherished by millions of readers ever since they were first published over sixty years ago. This My First Little House Book introduces Almanzo Wilder, the young boy from Farmer Boy who would one day marry Laura Ingalls. In Winter on the Farm, Almanzo goes through his afternoon barn chores, and then sits down to eat a hearty farm supper with his family. In this first book about Almanzo, young readers are able to share in the warmth and joy of another Little House family and celebrate new Little House adventures. Winter on the Farm is the first in an ongoing series about Laura’s beloved farmer boy.
Laura Ingalls Wilder was born in 1867 in the log cabin described in Little House in the Big Woods. She and her family traveled by covered wagon across the Midwest. Later, Laura and her husband, Almanzo Wilder, made their own covered-wagon trip with their daughter, Rose, to Mansfield, Missouri. There, believing in the importance of knowing where you began in order to appreciate how far you've come, Laura wrote about her childhood growing up on the American frontier. For millions of readers Laura lives on forever as the little pioneer girl in the beloved Little House books.Jody Wheeler is the illustrator of over forty books for children, including three picture books about Almanzo Wilder. She lives in New York City.

The children I read with loved it. We read it again and again. The pictures really help children who count on them to help them figure out the text. It is a picture book of the orignal Farmer Boy book, and it is really well done. I'd like to get the rest of the series.

Full-page illustrations (inspired by the original artwork by Garth Williams) bring these treasured stories to life in vivid color. Each book selects a story from one of the first 3 books in the Little House series. The language is slightly simpler, making it an excellent option for introducing the Little House books to early readers. I just bought all the books in this series for my children and we love them!
Elizabeth Barnes5 Stars Out Of 5March 19, 2010Elizabeth BarnesThese First Little House books are wonderful. I ended up buying the entire package of My First Little House books that Christianbook.com offers, and my daughter (age 4) looks at them all of the time. They have captured her imagination and she "plays Laura" all the time. Worth the money and then some!
