A.K. Arenz, Case of the Bouncing Grandma5 Stars Out Of 5May 18, 2009A.K. Arenz, Case of the Bouncing GrandmaA wonderful continuation to the American Patriot series. This book has it all: the American Revolution, the struggle of the Native Americans to survive the influx of the White man into their territories, conflict, and romance. If I'd been taught history like this, I would have aced all my tests!
Bonnie Toews5 Stars Out Of 5May 11, 2009Bonnie ToewsJ.M. Hochstetlers third novel in the American Patriot series, WIND OF THE SPIRIT, gives us an extraordinary glimpse into history. Ramping up the pace, adventure and passion as this tale continues, British forces under General William Howe win the Battle of Brooklyn, sending the American militia into disarray. Fighting alongside her patriots, Elizabeth Howard is nearly killed when British troops capture her. Recognizing Generals Clinton and Cornwallis, Elizabeth fears they will see through her disguise and realize she is the spy, Oriole. She whistles to her horse, Night Mare, vaults onto her back and breaks free to rejoin Washington in time to escape to York Island with him. There she finds Colonel Charles Andrews, the friend of her beloved Brigadier General Jonathan Carleton. He is not only alive, Charles tells her, but also the Shawnee war chief White Eagle who has driven white settlers out of the Ohio territory. Charles convinces her to help him find Jonathan before the British can arrest and hang him for treason. With intense drama and brilliant prose, J. M. Hochstetler rivets her readers to this agonizing love story while breathing new insight into the Shawnee Indians fierce fight for survival. Captured and forced to live among the Shawnee when they try to convince Jonathan to return with them, Elizabeth and Charles come to love the savages just as Jonathan does, but White Eagles enemy, Wolfslayer, endangers them all. In Jonathans battle for supremacy over his Indian nemesis, Elizabeth faces he has become more Indian than white. Can she redeem him? We wont know until the next book comes out. J.M. Hochstetler has set a formidable challenge for herself as readers wait to see Elizabeth and Jonathans love story resolved. It runs parallel to God's prime lesson: the author makes us wait for answers while teaching us patience and trust.
Diane Moody5 Stars Out Of 5March 16, 2009Diane MoodyI could not wait to read book #3 of the American Patriots series by J.M. Hochstetler! It was so good to get reacquainted with these characters, following Elizabeth and Andrews as they searched for Jonathan and their startling reunion among his adopted people, the Shawnee. Hochstetler ramps up the drama at every turn, taking the reader through a full range of emotions. The only criticism comes in realizing we must wait for the next sequel to this compelling story!
