Product Description

How can anyone claim to have the truth? Can anyone really prove the existence of God? Isn't it naive to believe in miracles? Doesn't evolution prove that the Bible's creation story is false? If God is so powerful and good, why is there so much suffering in the world? These are crucial questions that many Christians wrestle with. They are also the type of questions asked by skeptics of the faith.
Why I Am a Christian offers compelling answers that will free Christians from doubt and clear away obstacles to faith for unbelievers. Beginning with the topics of moral relativism and knowable truth, the book progresses to questions about belief in God, the reliability of the Bible, and the identity of Jesus as the Messiah, the Son of God. It concludes with three chapters on what it means to make a commitment to follow Christ.
The contributors to this revised edition are expert witnesses for the Christian faith. They include an astronomer, a mechanical engineer, a trial lawyer, a religious historian, a philosopher, a Jewish Christian, a former atheist, a former skeptic, and a former Muslim.

The person who suggested that the Christian writers of this group were capitulating to evolution and included a non-Christian (Peter Kreeft) was completely off-based. This book is a solid, not great, book that argues persuasively for objective truth, God's existence, the reliability of the Bible, and essays on why people have embraced Christ as their Savior. It was very helpful for me when I bought it about 10 years ago. The individual who didn't like this book didn't like how Walter Bradley, William Lane Craig, and Hugh Ross (along with most of the writers of this book) espoused an old earth view. These are the foremost defenders of the faith today - they actually know how to intelligently argue for the faith and help people, like myself, to do it better so we can clear away doubts and distortions so people can come to Jesus. There is no doctrine of the age of the earth, so there can be no heresy involved. Peter Kreeft is a Catholic, but he is a Christian, like many Catholics, and although his doctrine isn't perfect (whose is?), nothing he wrote in this essay is wrong. He is a wonderful author who we can learn from.
    The book has Six Parts.
    1. Why I Believe in Truth.
    2. Why I Believe in God.
    3. Why I Believe in Miracles.
    4. Why I Believe the Bible is the Word of God.
    5. Why I Believe Jesus is the Messiah and the Son of God.
    6. Why I Have Chosen To Follow Christ.

This book looks terrific. Norm Geisler, Gary Habermas, Ergun Caner, J.P. Moreland and Ravi Zacharias all doing apologetics. Sounds pretty solid. The only problem is this book ignores the traditional defend true Christiainty route and instead goes for the invent-something-else-and-defend-it route. The authors argue against the book of Genesis trying to insert evolutionary ideas. To make it worse THIS BOOK ACTUAL ARGUES THAT THE GLOBAL FLOOD NEVER TOOK PLACE! If that's not liberalism what is? Let me answer the question in the title for the authors. Why am I a Christian? Because I can believe anything I want and then alter the Bible accordingly and still call myself a Christian. Liberal theology combine with including heretics like Hugh Ross and Walter Bradley as well as people WHO DON'T EVEN PROFESS CHRISTIANITY as contributors (i.e. Peter Kreeft the Roman Catholic) makes this book a joke. Were there good parts? Yes. Most of the book in fact. But I wouldn't recommend you convert to Judaism because they are right in certain parts of their religion (i.e. They accept the Old Testament, believe in God, etc). Don't even waste your time when there are GOOD apologetic books available.

There is quite a lot of information in this book from several different people.

There is one chapter in this book that I totally disagree with, and it is the one that is titled "Why I Believe the Bible Is Scientifically Reliable" written and contributed by Walter Bradley. I do believe that you can believe in evolution and still be a Christian, but be very misguided with this avenue of thought. It is of my opinion that this chapter should have been omitted. I believe that a new Christian would be very misguided in reading this information and might falter if they are not grounded in their faith.
