Publisher's Description

Sam Carter, the youngest Marris sister, decides to enter her mother’s blackberry cobbler recipe in the Summerfest baking contest. But she has a formidable opponent, a past winner who is not above engaging in dirty tactics to keep her title. Can Sam rise above the fray to reach out to this lonely woman? Sam and her sisters, Caroline Marris and Gracie Gold, welcome a new guest, an elderly woman who knows a great deal of their new home Misty Harbor Inn’s history. When she shares her photo album, they are stunned to learn that their mother lived there as a child even though she’d told them she’d never been to Nantucket until her honeymoon! Why would she lie? What was she hiding? The sisters make an intriguing discovery, not only about Hannah Montague, the young woman who vanished from the house more than one hundred years ago, but also about their own family history. As the warmth of summer turns to autumn, the sisters are amazed at the ways God has blessed them.

    Whispers on the Dock

This review gives more insight than just "it was/wasn't a good book" or "this is/isn't a must read". While I try not to give too much away, sometimes it's difficult to write about the story and have it not be revealing.

Whispers on the Dock is the third book in the Postcards from Misty Harbor Inn Series. What I find interesting is that the series is written by four different people under the pen name of Evangeline Kelley. The authors are Patti Berg, Pam Hanson & Barbara Andrews, and Camy Tang. It's amazing that they all can contribute and make it seem like only one person has written it.

The series started with three sisters, Caroline Marris, Gracie Gold, and Sam Carter, vacationing in Nantucket in Seaside Harmony. They decided to realize their deceased mother's dream and buy a local dilapidated inn called Misty Harbor Inn. Their plan was to transform it into a Bed & Breakfast. The second book in the series, Sunflower Summer, begins one year after the sisters became owners of the Misty Harbor Inn. They open for business and welcome guests to the inn and into their lives. In Whispers on the Dock the inn has been up and running for two months and the sisters are enjoying their new lives in Nantucket.

Caroline, the free spirit has decided to settle down. I am so glad that Caroline and George are finally getting married. They had been best friends for thirty years. I found it unbelievable in the previous books of the series that they would continue to stay just friends that long without marrying.

Gracie really wants to prove that Hannah wasn't killed and that she didn't steal any money. In Whispers on the Dock the sisters are closer than ever in figuring out the fate of Hannah Montague. Parts of solving the mystery actually were described a little too much for my liking. When they were deciphering a code I was totally confused. Apart from that, the story about Hannah Montague was the most interesting that it has been throughout this series.

Sam has really gotten into baking and decided to enter a dessert in the Summerfest baking contest. When she meets one of her opponents, Betsy Carlisle, she needs to rise above her wanting to win to do what she knows is right. But she's not sure exactly how to do that. I was quite surprised at the way Sam reacted to Betsy with all the contest silliness.

Two guests bring quite a bit of excitement to the inn. One has information about Hannah Montague. The sisters find out way more than they even imagined about Hannah and her family tree. The other guest is a romance writer that gets Caroline excited about planning her wedding - maybe a little too excited.

This whole series is very similar to the Tales from Grace Chapel Inn series, and geared towards an older audience. This is a clean, uplifting story. It is also a light read. You won't get bogged down reading about heavy issues. I think you'll feel like you may even want to visit Nantucket and the charming Misty Harbor Inn. Whispers on the Dock and the rest of the series is an enjoyable escape where you're sure there will be a happy ending.

I didn't get a chance to read the first two books in the Postcard series and it was noticeable. I would suggest that you read them first (The first book - Seaside Harmony and the second - Sunflower Summer) as apparently, there are many loose threads tied up in this one. While I didn't hate the book, I didn't love it either. I thought it was difficult to lose myself in the story and I did find that I skipped and skimmed quite a bit of the scenery details. I did enjoy the fact that all sisters were middle-aged rather than the typical young and perfect most of today's romance/mystery novels are about. It's nice to know there's life after 30.

Also, I liked how the situation between Sam and Betsy was resolved, and I did like that not everything worked out exactly perfect ~ which made it more realistic. While this wasn't my favorite book, I would still recommend it to someone who enjoys clean, gentle romance, scenic writing, and light mystery.

I just like the ladies of Postcards from Misty Harbor Inn. I enjoyed reading about how they started their bed and breakfast on Nantucket Island. I've enjoyed each phase of their story. These are cozy little novels with happy endings. What more could you want? Mystery! Secrets! Love! Beautiful descriptions! Whispers on the Dock has it. It also has some of the closure that I was seeking in the past books. The interaction between the three sisters seems authentic. This final book in the series holds some surprises. You'll enjoy it most if you've read the first two.

Read my reviews of the first two Postcards from Misty Harbor Inn: Seaside Harmony and Sunflower Summer.

This is the third in the Postcards from Misty Harbor Inn series. You would really need to read those books to appreciate this volume. For example, the historical mystery solved in this book is set up in the earlier two.

In the fist book we met the Marris sisters who bought the run down Misty Harbor Inn. This book focused on Caroline. In the second volume the sisters almost have the Inn ready for the summer business but do allow a honeymooning couple to stay. Gracie is the focus of this book.

In this book, the story focuses on Sam. She retired early from teaching elementary school and has found her joy in baking for guests at the Inn. Her baking becomes a serious issue, however, when she decides to enter her blackberry cobbler in a contest. The competition is stiff and when Sam has an opportunity to foil the chances of the repeated champion, the temptation is too much.

The Inn has a quirky guest, a romance writer who thinks a little too highly of herself. There is also an older woman who visits, one who adds a little more knowledge to the history of the Inn. Through her the Marris sisters find out that their mother lived at the Inn when young. Yet she claimed she had never stayed their until her honeymoon. The sisters can't believe their mother lied - until they find out why. Another secret room is discovered in the Inn as the mystery of what happened to Hannah is finally solved.

This is a low key, gentle novel. There is no exciting action nor suspense. The story befits the fifty plus year old Marris sisters and the elderly people they talk to in solving the mystery of the Inn. It was interesting to read about the historical investigation and the serendipitous nature of discovery. I was also reminded that something fun may lose its joy when competition is involved.

Finishing the novel, I was happy for the sisters. Some of them had struggled with buying an Inn so late in life and what that would mean to the rest of their families. But the end is very satisfying and you rest assured they will continue to help their guests be better and happier when they leave the Inn than when they came.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for the purpose of this review.

The third book in this wonderful series, hated it to end!! What a delightful visit with old friends. You feel like you are living there with them. Now I should let you know you can read this without reading the first two, but you would be depriving yourself of a lot of joy, and a great reads.

There are a lot of answers to long asked questions that are revealed here. Some long buried secrets, with the right people put in their paths with answers, not a coincidence, God is with them.

We can picture this beautiful Island thru their eyes, and I loved looking at the surf and flowers. There are mysteries to be solved, and the finding of hidden rooms in and out of the Inn.

The Sister's come to terms with their decision to start new lives together at the Inn, and some struggle. Love the people who appear to be problems, and end up different.

Don't miss this wonderful final visit with these sisters....could we have another book?

I received this book through Litfuse Publicity Book Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.
