SqwigglesCaliforniaAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5I enjoyed this storyJuly 16, 2015SqwigglesCaliforniaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4I really enjoyed this book. I thought that the plot was creative and interesting. I liked that the book took place on a ship and you got to read about Millicent's and Daniel's journey to Gooding. There were a few twists in the book that were not expected, which I always enjoy because it makes me want to keep reading. I loved all of the character interactions and Millicent's and Daniel's love seemed genuine. I also really liked the ending and I think that the author gave the reader's exactly what they were hoping for.
MargotSouth AustraliaAge: 45-54Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Lovely Story, Poorly PresentedNovember 20, 2014MargotSouth AustraliaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 2Value: 4Meets Expectations: 3Loved the content - definitely 5 stars, but the presentation, unfortunately, was only 2 stars. Each time there was a "scene change" or a passage of time, where there would normally be a missed line or some form of section demarcation, there was nothing, so the sections would flow into one and leave me confused until I worked out that there should have been a break there.
Apart from that, I love the story. There were unexpected twists and turns, a comical but ever competent nanny as the heroine, a devoted father and gentleman as the hero, and numerous other lovable characters along the way to a very satisfying conclusion. I recommend this book, in paper form, to all lovers of historical romance novels.
emily5 Stars Out Of 5April 28, 2014emilyMillicent Fairweather leaves England with her sister and brother-in-law expecting to go to America and build their own dream. But when tragedy strikes, Millicent agrees to a spur of the moment marriage of convenience to Daniel Clark in order to secure entrance to America for her and her sister. But soon she finds that marriage to Daniel is harder than she ever thought....
I thoroughly enjoyed this continuation of Cathy Marie Hake's series Only in Gooding. She skillfully kept my attention in this novel through believable characters, humorous dialogue, and an interesting plot. When I started reading the book, I didn't realize that it was in the same series as Fancy Pants; therefore I was pleasantly surprised at the recurrence of the characters of Tim and Sidney Creighton. If I have the opportunity, I will definitely be reading the rest of the books in this series.
The Quiet EccentricCanadaAge: Under 18Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Well, not exactly a whirlwind...September 16, 2013The Quiet EccentricCanadaAge: Under 18Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4I've enjoyed Cathy Marie Hake's books in the past and this one was no exception. However, it took me awhile to get into and I certainly wouldn't call it a favorite.
It's just one of those books... enjoyable to read, but not life changing or memorable in any significant way. The characters were sweet and I'm a sucker for marriage before love situations.
If you're a fan of light, historical romances then I'd highly recommend this novel!
TinaWMesa, AZAge: 45-54Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5A Fathers Love in the Beginning and EndAugust 1, 2011TinaWMesa, AZAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I read this book last in the Gooding Series, I think it was actually the cover and title that made the delay. The author did a fine job of telling the story. I really enjoy the authors ability to influx characters into the storyline with out a lot of fuss about it!
Lots of adventure to be sure and the storyline is layered just right to keep you reading. Adventure on the high seas, then the adventure becoming a part of Gooding - with a twist on the end you just done see coming!!!
Good read and I suggest you buy the whole set! I am sending them to my friends!
