Kathi Lipp gives some very good encouraging words to help us in raising our children. Whether you are just a first time parent or have older children, this book would be very helpful for you. Some of things she writes in her book are things I have already heard before, but I needed to be reminded of them. This book has humor and serious notes in it. At the end of each chapter are prayers for you to pray for yourself and your child. Kathi Lipp is a very good author and I will read other books by her. I would recommend this book to everyone. I received this book from bookfun for my honest opinion.
MaryMinnesotaAge: 45-54Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Full of great practical adviceAugust 4, 2014MaryMinnesotaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5"I Need Some Help Here!" is a practical book, mostly (but not totally) dealing with teenagers. The book is filled with personal stories, scripture and prayer. Kathi Lipp has clearly expressed how we must be dependent on God for our strength, and also be willing to accept wise counsel, and to seek help when we need it.
Parents often allow pride, shame and embarrassment to take precedent over their kids' feelings. Instead of thinking "How can I help my child?" we think, "What will everyone think about me when they find out that my child is ....?" Lipp helps parents see that our priority needs to be for the well-being of the child, not ourselves. Also, that we MUST take it to God, that He is the one in control of everything, not the parent. We can attempt to be perfect parents, but the ultimate outcome of our child's life is in God's hands.
"I Need Some Help Here!" is an easy book to read and understand. Each chapter has Bible verses, practical suggestions and specific prayers to pray depending on your circumstances. I liked reading the stories from other parents' experiences, as it is easy to think, "everyone else has great kids and only mine have problems."
I received this book from "The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.
Laura HiltonHorseshoe Bend, ARAge: 45-54Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5i need some help here!July 31, 2014Laura HiltonHorseshoe Bend, ARAge: 45-54Gender: femaleI NEED SOME HELP HERE! is a parenting book that I want to encourage moms not to read the whole book at once. Like others have expressed before, read the first three chapters and then look to see which chapter applies to you. I read the whole book through and found it uninteresting in the areas that didnt apply to me and my situations.
The book is well written and vital and will help many moms with many different scenerios, from bad choices (where I am) to being left out. Struggling. Different. Running away. Sick. Lacking character. Pick your topic.
This is a book for parents to keep on their shelves for when the scenerios change. The watching your child being left out at eight years old might turn into your child making poor choices with his friends at eighteen. This is also a book for pastors and counselors to loan out to encourage moms. Just because your son stole a candy bar doesnt make it your fault. It was his decision, his choice, you are not to blame.
If you are a mom with a struggling child, pick this book up and read the table of contents to see if the issue you need help with is covered. There are some helpful prayers and verses in the back to pray for your child, to pray for yourself, and some final thoughts and notes. 3.5 stars.

Kathi Lipp writes a great book about parenting beyond the typical, textbook situations. She writes about situations that occur in everyday real life. I think one of the best parts of this book is that she identifies the relationship between parent and child and doesnt act as if the two are totally inseparable. She recognizes that children do have minds of their own and that as they grow, they make their own decisions sometimes despite all of the things theyve been taught. She speaks to parents about their responsibilities as well as to the parent who is taking too much responsibility for their childs decisions.
With interesting and transparent stories from real life mothers, I Need Some Help Here! illustrates life happening. Sometimes the best help is just knowing youre not alone. In this book Ms. Lipp talks about everything from temper tantrums to drug addiction. Each section ends with prayers specific to that topic.
Ms. Lipp is an interesting and informative speaker and author. I Need Some Help Here! is a great book for parents of all ages.

releightGainesville, FLAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A parenting must-have!July 16, 2014releightGainesville, FLAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5What a vital resource this is! This was both a hard and easy book for me to read. It was hard because my kids are only 3 and 1, and I am still somewhat in denial that they will ever make big bad mistakes. This book confronts almost every one that they could make...but it was an easy read because it was humorous, well-written, hopeful, helpful, and full of God's grace.
Most "parenting" books I've read have been fairly formulaic: if you want this result, follow these steps. They've been full of good advice which you hope, if you follow just right, your kids will turn out marvelously. This author, though, faces reality head-on - our children are humans who are going to make bad choices and have bad things happen to them. She is full of wisdom on praying through and coping with the results of living in a fallen world with our kids. Every chapter had stories, examples, and practical tips on ways to handle those difficult circumstances, and then, my favorite part, ways to pray Scriptures over your kids and yourself in those situations. Speaking of which, this book was chock-full of Scripture and prayer - not much "self-help" here! Plus the author managed to address real life while maintaining her sense of humor - it's a rare talent to be conversational and entertaining without downplaying the seriousness of the issues.
I don't know if I've ever read another book that so honestly and helpfully addresses real life as a parent. For any mom (which, at some point, is every one of us) who's ever felt like part of the "Bad Mom Club," this is for you! This is a book I intend to keep on my shelf for as long as I have children (which, God willing, will be as long as I live!), and one that I will highly recommend to friends again and again and again.
