Alyssa LiljequistAge: Under 183 Stars Out Of 5August 4, 2013Alyssa LiljequistAge: Under 18What's Your Mark? by Jeremy Cowart and Annie F. Downs (she's the one who did the interviews) is a neat little book with pictures and short stories about different real-life people and how they are making their mark on the world. I had not heard of most of them but I was very familiar with Katie Davis and the amazing work God has been doing through her in Uganda. "What mark am I leaving on the world?" is a question I think everyone should ask themselves. God has given us one life to live...how are we living it? What's Your Mark? is a nice little read but I don't think the author(s) needed to include the Gospel of Mark. We can read the Gospel of Mark in our Bibles. I would have preferred ideas for readers to implement in their own lives, websites to check out, etc. Still, I think this book would make a great graduation gift.
~I received a free copy of this book from Thomas Nelson/Booksneeze in exchange for my honest review.
PastorsDaughterWVAge: Under 18Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A pretty good book...July 3, 2013PastorsDaughterWVAge: Under 18Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4When I got this book in the mail a few weeks back I was surprised to find the book a square shape (minor bad thing about it though ;), but was quickly drawn into the book. Stories from people who are making their marks in the world and questions at the end of each story urging us to do the same.
I loved the bright pictures and how it took the book of Mark intertwined with the story, letting you read through a whole book of the Bible, along with reading some great stories.
Something I think would be a great book to go along with devotions or just a book to get out and read.
MitchBlackburnAge: 45-54Gender: male4 Stars Out Of 5Get Inspired to Make Your MarkJune 26, 2013MitchBlackburnAge: 45-54Gender: maleQuality: 3Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4What's Your Mark uniquely blends motivational stories, and the Gospel of Mark to inspire the reader. Through this unique combination of photography, new stories, and ancient sacred texts, the reader will become inspired to find their unique opportunity. It will become clear that each person has been blessed with a unique combination of talents, places, and time to make their own 'mark'.
Photographer, Jeremy Cowart, joined forces with Annie Downs, Brad Davis, and Michael Moore to create this small and compelling book. Thingy have collected the stories of people who are each making their mark on the world in unique and powerful ways. Some of them are people you've seen on TV, others have influential roles at companies like Twitter, plus you'll find musicians, teenagers, a homeless man, and many others that are making their mark on the world. For each person, you'lre given a glimpse into their life via pictures, and a short narrative describing how they have used their unique gifts.
I'd recommend this book to a broad range of people. For the young person that's trying to see how their contributions matter, the successful business person who wants to make an impact outside the world of commerce, or the person who is struggling to see good in today's world. I'd recommend the reader take the book in doses - read a few of the stories, and a bit of Mark, then let it work on you for a while - and figure out...How will I make my mark?

And an example of what it looks like inside:
I take full responsibility for what I got, but BookSneeze had pathetic options this time. Their eBook selections were better, but I don't do those. (The point's to donate these books to the parish library, after all.) I even tried to undo my choice within minutes but was eventually told my order already shipped. Strangely, after talking about Christian fiction, my friend slid a book under my face, on top of my work. It was what she was reading...and it's by the same authors as the book I wish I'd chosen. I consider it a sign. My friend said the public library has at least 20 books by these people (Bodie and Brock Thoene), and I've checked out their Only the River Runs Free.
As for What's Your Mark, it aspires to be a miniature, paperback coffee-table book with all its pictures and its artsy format. Paragraphs are centered as opposed to aligned on the left. The book's disorganized, too. One doesn't know what to expect when one turns the page - a big picture? The Gospel of Mark, or a giant quote from it? A dull biography? You will recognize a few names: Mark Burnett ("Take a Risk"), Roma Downey ("The Divine at Work"), and Chick Fil-A's Dan Cathy ("Intentional Leadership"). And oh yeah: Saint Mark ("Follower of Jesus") and Jesus himself ("Son of Man"). This is not a book that's really going to change you and in fact you will never miss it by not reading it. It won't do any harm though on the parish library shelf.
I received this book for free from the publisher through the BookSneeze®.com (http://BookSneeze®.com> book review bloggers program.
JanetColumbus, GAGender: female4 Stars Out Of 5A Unique Presentation of Mark Plus MoreApril 9, 2013JanetColumbus, GAGender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4"What's Your Mark?" compiled by professional photographer Jeremy Cowart is an inspirational gift book, a work of art to encourage those who view its pages. Inside, the 16 chapters of the Gospel of Mark taken from the New International Version are interspersed with the stories of 16 people who are making a difference in our world, people who are making a mark. A question for the reader follows each of these stories, helping the reader to brainstorm similar ways to make a mark. The message is clear: followers of Jesus follow His example, loving other people in His name however they can. "What's Your Mark?" presents a great variety of ways.
Some of the people in the book were familiar to me, but how they are making a mark right now was fairly new information. I found that interesting. Others, I'd heard of, but didn't know their story. Some were introduced to me through this book. Quotes from Donald Collins were especially inspirational to me, personally. Katie Davis's story prompted me to go right out and find her book at the library.
Reading the book on an eReader, I'm not sure I was able to get the most out of the photography. Each biographical entry includes a picture of its subject holding a picture representing what he or she does. On my eReader, the pictures were too small to clearly see. To get the most out of this book, I'd recommend getting the real book one can hold. Still, I greatly enjoyed reading the Gospel of Mark presented in this unique way with stories of people who are following Jesus' lead. I thank Thomas Nelson Publishers for sending a complimentary copy for this honest review.
