5 Stars Out Of 5
Solid Teaching Along With Humor and Fun
December 1, 2014
The two 25-minute episodes on this DVD give an overview of the books of poetry (the Writings), which are Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon.
Some of the questions it answers are: Why does the Bible use poetry? What are some different kinds of Psalms?
What does "Ecclesiastes" mean? What is the difference between being smart and being wise?
It summarizes each book. And makes them relevant, asking how can we make good decisions? What do we do when life seems meaningless? And what about romantic love?
Near the end, the puppet Clive stands on animated legs, and his brother Ian acts as his background singer while Ian brings out animated carts with the 5 books' names on them as they musically summarize the Writings. Like the rest of the series, it gives the message in colorful visuals as well as in song.
59 minutes. With "Dove Family Approved" logo on back cover.
Bonus Features are "Show Outtakes," "Michaels Deleted Scene" and "A Pirates Guide to Church History," which is about Constantine.
Like the other DVDs up to now, the back of the package has endorsements from author and pastor Max Lucado, "Phil Vischer has done it again!" and from author Randy Alcorn calling it "A remarkable combination of entertainment and biblical substance!" and pastor and author Francis Chan: "I have never been more excited about a childrens DVD series!"
Theres good reason for that, as never before has one DVD not only summarized these 5 books, but done it so it can be beneficial for all ages, while also making it practical, sometimes humorous, and fun.
I started getting the DVDs in this series from the library, but found them so good I bought the whole 13-volume set, and will review them all.
Our children (ages 6 - 21) and Grandparents are really enjoying the entire series. We were pleasantly surprised by the positive treatment of the books of Job & Ecclesiastes, Psalms & Proverbs were handled well and we rolled with laughter when SoS was presented as a "mushy" book. Very well done with great humor.
