Christmas really isn't lost!
âÂÂâÂÂMerry Christmas is lost!â Sam shouted as he burst through the door.
âÂÂWhatâÂÂs wrong, Sam?âÂÂâ Mother wanted to know.
Sam explained he got an invitation to a party, a holiday party, not a Christmas party. He went on to say, âÂÂâÂÂTeacher says there wonâÂÂt be any Christmasâ¦.what about Christmas?âÂÂâÂÂ
His mother said, âÂÂMaybe Christmas really isnâÂÂt lost, Sam. Just because something isnâÂÂt easy to find does not mean it is lost. Maybe we will just have to look a little harder for it.âÂÂ
SamâÂÂs mother told him about the Advent wreath on their table. She said itâÂÂs to help remind them that Christmas is coming. âÂÂThe candles remind us that Jesus is the light of the world.âÂÂ
When Sam asked about the Christmas tree, she said evergreen trees are used for Christmas trees because they are always green and alive. They symbolize Jesusâ birth. The presents under the tree symbolize the gifts the Three Wise Men gave Baby Jesus.
She even pointed out that the word holiday means holy day.
Then Sam understood that Merry Christmas wasnâÂÂt really lost. You could find it if you looked for it because âÂÂMerry Christmas is everywhere.âÂÂ
Robert C. Baker, the author of What Happened to Merry Christmas?, weaves Bible verses into the text. For instance, when SamâÂÂs mother talks about the Advent wreath, she says, âÂÂThe Candles remind us that Jesus is the light of the world (John 8:12). He came to take away the darkness of our sins by dying on the cross.â She quotes a scripture verse every time she points out something that relates to Christmas.
The bright, expressive illustrations by Dave Hill are truly delightful and add much to the text.

I was privileged to see a preprint copy of this new book. It is a wonderful book! The story is engaging, the topic very current - and it reads like the mind of a child thinks. The author read it to my daughter's 5th grade class and a group of 1st graders. Both ages loved the story and the art - another reason this book is so fantastic. The artist is a Scotsman and touches of his world are embedded artfully into the illustrations. This will become one of the Christmas classics that a family reads each year.
