I use this book with our middle school Sunday school class and find it to be an excellent resource. It provides age appropriate illustrations for further understanding of the Catechism and yet it contains material rich enough to be of value for older ages.

Williams son has done a great service in going through the Shorter Catechism, giving straight-forward explanations with illustrations that may be used for personnel study, teaching the family and in home or church study sessions. The doctrines (teachings of Scripture - by the way we are supposed to know doctrine 2 Timothy 3:16) discussed fundamental beliefs of historical Christianity from the Reformation that put the Scripture into the hands of the people rather that only the clergy. They also combat many errors of interpretation that have occurred and continue to repeat themselves, especially in our day. I wish that I had access to this book earlier in my life. I give it my hightest recommendation.

This book is very, very highly recommended. It is very helpful in helping the read understand and digest the shorter catechism. Williamson has done us a great service in taking the riches of the Shorter Catechism and 1) he explains them in layman's terms, and 2) uses pictures very often to visually explain the doctrines. This book is THE standard for folks who are interested in beginning to study and understand the crucial, biblical truths found in the shorter catechism.

The Westminster Shorter Catechism by G.I. Williamson is not highly recommended. This book can be quite drawn out and over detailed when explaining many concepts. Tone is also an important factor to consider when purchasing a book. The tone of the author does not seem very pleasant while the doctrinal teachings are fundamental and important for every Christian. Furthermore, the style of writing can be "choppy" at times, not allowing a smooth reading.
