Would God use pain as an instrument in your spiritual growth? In Don't Waste the Pain, brother and sister, David Lyons and Linda Lyons Richardson explore this question through their personal challenges with cancer. In 2008 David learned that his 12 year-old son Ian had aggressive childhood cancer. Likewise, earlier in 2000, Linda was diagnosed with stage III ovarian cancer, and has been fighting the disease since. Filled with deep insight, excerpts from personal journals and honest faith, Don't Waste the Pain is a unique and encouraging read to those looking for meaning in their trials.
Everyone experiences pain in their lives. But how we handle it and what we do with it makes all the difference.
In Don t Waste the Pain, you'll see how two people dealing with life-threatening illnesses and the loss of a child found joy and peace in the midst of their suffering.
Through intimate journal writings and personal reflections, you will learn that faith and spiritual growth can come out of brokenness, pain, and grief.
"Life is often difficult and sometimes painful. This pain can either push us away from God or draw us closer to Him. In Don't Waste the Pain, David Lyons and his sister Linda Richardson blend Scripture and their own experiences with cancer to teach us how pain can draw us closer to God. But this is more than a book about fighting cancer; it is a book about God and pain. And because we all experience pain--be it physical, emotional, or spiritual--from time to time, every believer can profit from this book." --Jerry Bridges, author of Respectable Sins, The Pursuit of Holiness, and Growing Your Faith.
David Lyons has served with the Navigators for twenty-five years. He is a graduate of Cedarville University and Capitol Bible Seminary. David's personal experience with Internet ministry led him to envision helping others grow through their pain through this book, and through www.dontwastethepain.com. David and his family live in Colorado.
Linda Lyons Richardson holds degrees from Montgomery College and the University of Maryland. She also studied at Corcoran Gallery School of Art. She was diagnosed with advanced-stage ovarian cancer in 2000. Living with cancer is a day-to-day adventure that she puts on the back burner when she can, while simply enjoying the rest of her life. Linda and her family live in West River, MD.
