"I don't suppose you have a friend who is a warthog. You probably don't have a friend who is a professional detective, either. So it's very unlikely that you have a friend who's both. But I do."So begins the first adventure of Nick Sayga and his friend Bill, a warthog detective. As Bill fights kids' crimes, such as questionable celebrity soccer shoes and a surge in broken skateboard helmets, he also teaches Nick and his friends about the Armor of God. Try to figure out each chapter's mystery as you read about Bill, Nick and their friends. And you're going to laugh at Bill's crazy attempts to fit in with kids--especially when he puts tennis balls on his tusks so he can join the soccer team! This book comes with a Warthog Detective Agency green rubber bracelet. Recommended for ages 7 to 10.

My 10 year old son just finished reading this first book. He hasn't been much of a reader, but says he's hooked and can hardly wait to get into the next one. He has enjoyed the adventure and the characters. As a Mom of course I like the wholesomeness and mostly the Biblical parallel. I would highly recommend this series to parents of boys that are reluctant readers.

Tell us a little about yourself. I grew up in northern California reading
mysteries. I attended San Diego State, and earned
my Masters of Divinity at Trinity Evangelical
Seminary in Deerfield, IL. I served about a dozen
years in youth minister, but am now a writer and
hotel night auditor.
What was your motivation behind this project? To have fun. I told these stories to my kids, and
it is wonderful to now see them in print. But if
it led kids to know Jesus and the Bible better,
that would be the best.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? The Bill the Warthog mystery series brings
Scriptural teaching into the world of kids.
Though you may detect a fantasy element in
stories of an African warthog who can walk on his
hind legs and solve crimes, there is also an
attempt to show in this book how the full armor
of God that Paul writes about in Ephesians can be
put into practice in school, on the playground
and in the home. (Other Bill mysteries introduce
the Ten Commandments, the Fruit of the Spirit,
Proverbs and Jesus' parables.)
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? The Browns greatly influenced this series (Bill
admits as much); C.K. Chesterton's Father Brown
and Don Sobol's Encyclopedia Brown.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: Remember what Bill says, "Crime is like a roach,
but not as tasty."
