But how can she stay? Her push-the-limits personality may have made her a perfect soldier, but it sets her apart from the people at her church. And it sets her at odds with Scott Mathis, the husband of her closest friend, Erin. Fearing for Erin's safety, Scott resents hsi wife's high-risk friendship with Chris. But when Scott and Chris are forced together to help Kimberly Square residents ride out the storm, a different, equally lethal danger descends on them. Death or redemption rest in the hands of one person--a woman with a warrior's heart.

Reviewed by Chloe T. (Chicago,Il.), November 07, 2007 While I would not recommend Valiant hope over the first and third book of its series, it was a good book. I felt that this was the book where Chris should have fallen in love. The only male interaction she had was with Erin's husband. It was o.k. 5 out of 5 stars
Reviewed by Christian Book Previews.com (San Jose, CA), March 06, 2006 Warrior’s Heart by Donna Fleisher is about a young woman named Chris McIntyre who is trying to find her place within herself and in the world. The closer she comes to finding herself, the harder it is for her to endure the storm within her.
The intensity of emotion builds with every step, as Chris continues the journey of drawing closer to her Creator. The people of her new home town, Kimberly Square, seek to befriend and understand her unique fearlessness and determination. These characteristics not only cultivate her own faith, but plant a seed in the heart of a past enemy.
As Chris McIntyre attempts to love the people of her town and love her God, many twists and turns come her way. Her best friend’s husband, Scott Mathis, mistrusts her around his wife, Erin, due to Chris’ intense personality. They are soon forced to work together when a violent storm hits the town.
Chris, an ex-soldier, is fearless and determined to get the job done, whether she enjoys it or not, but deep within her soul she struggles to live a life she has never before experienced. These qualities appeal to the hearts of the townspeople.
Although much growth takes place in Chris’s life, her story is still unfinished. In the Homeland Heroes series, she continues in her Christian walk in the next installment, Valiant Hope. I recommend this wonderful series for young adult women from 18 to 25 years of age who desire to find and mature their inner strength. -- Angela Wood, Christian Book Previews.com

Author: Donna Fleisher Located in: Lincoln City, Oregon Submitted: August 10, 2005 Tell us a little about yourself. I'm still sitting here in my same recliner,
glancing from time to time at those crashing
waves. I love living on the Oregon Coast, and
can't believe I've lived here off and on for
almost 20 years!
What was your motivation behind this project? This, the continuation of Chris and Erin's
story, needed to show Chris's growth as a new
believer even as she struggled to live totally
out of her element -- in a city. It also needed
to show Scott's (Erin's husband) hesitancy to
having Chris around, since he thinks Chris is
dangerous to all he holds dear. In a way, she
is. Chris understands this. But she knows she
needs to stay at Kimberley Square. Somehow.
Because it's home. And because it's the only
place where she can find the help she needs to
grow in the new faith she cherishes.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope readers will come away from the story
with a new appreciation of the fight for faith
most new believers face. Salvation is real and
dramatic and sometimes a bit overwhelming. But
it's Truth, like nothing else is truth. Chris
knows she can't leave her new home because it's
where God is. She needs Him more than she needs
the comforts of her old life. She learns to
trust Jesus on her own, and to savor His healing
and forgiveness. Wounded Healer (book one of the
series) was not the end of Chris's journey of
faith, but the beginning. Now she must walk the
path that leads her closer to her Lord. I hope,
as readers share this journey with her, they
will appreciate their own journeys a bit more.
It is in the journey where God walks with us.
He's not too concerned about telling us where
the path ends. He wants us to walk with Him in
every present moment and trust Him to take us
safely to our journey's end. How cool is
that? : )
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? As always, Gayle Erwin teaches me, Margaret
Becker's artistry sustains me, and Francine
Rivers provides me with the example to follow in
this industry. But it's also been fun to meet
many of my fellow novelists and to share a bit
of their journeys of how the Lord is using their
availability to create great Truth-telling
stories. I am awed and inspired and influenced
by all of them, and appreciate their willingess
to share their adventures with me.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I love being able to share Chris and Erin's
entire story with all of you, from Wounded
Healer to Warrrior's Heart to Valiant Hope (to
be released in May) to . . . who knows? They are
the coolest imaginary friends I've ever had, and
I've had a few in my childhood years. (Barbie
and Ken lived in my basement.) I pray their
story will always be a means for Christ to touch
each reader's heart as only He can. I know He's
touched me through this adventure. For that I'll
be forever grateful. Thanks again for reading!
love, donna
