Dannah Gresh has written many bestselling books concerning female dignity, goals, careers, and gender identity, and she has spoken across the country to girls and young woman in regard to purity. The book flows as if she were actually on a stage speaking to a crowd of teens. It is informal, funny, down-to-earth, and straightforward.
Gresh makes it a point to start off with the statement, "This book is not for spiritual monks." She wants to be real about the topic of sex and not sugar-coat what the world preaches or what the Bible says. She focuses on the original Hebrew word for "sex," and uses biblical and personal examples to support her views.
This book is unlike any other purity book out there. It goes back to the origin of the topic itself and gives real-world examples of girls who have made the right or the wrong choices. Its strength lies in the fact that it's not a book for "spiritual monks," but a book for real girls who want real answers. I highly recommend this book for females from middle school to college, believing this book will make a difference in the lives of those who read it. Demelza Ramirez, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
GCCanadaAge: Under 18Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Light shines through this.May 10, 2013GCCanadaAge: Under 18Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Light so pure and beautiful shines as Dannah reveals the meaning of Yada, transcending the human comprehension of things, and bringing the true significance of sexual relationship back to Eden. Back to the divine purpose of it all.
This is it.
An explanation for the unexplainable. The longing. The feelings. The ache. In fact, while reading, I truly felt the anointing on this book and I praise God for the life and ministry of Dannah Gresh ― proclaiming truth passionately and beautifully in a world steeped in darkness.
As a girl committed to purity, What Are You Waiting For encouraged me to pursue a journey toward sanctification in my relationship with God and my future husband. Each chapter unravels truths that touches the soul and enhances the yearning to continue on the right track. For some of us who've fallen, this may literally be the door to freedom for you. Gresh reaches out compassionately, having been through that experience, herself. I've read a good number of books on purity before marriage and so far I can truly say that this one has the most solid, brilliant, radiant thoughts and arguments on this subject. Very well and carefully written and researched, with deep and considerable insights. Life changing lessons. Honestly, one of THE very best books I've read this year, You need to read it to believe it. I sense that Gresh is making an impact on this generation... it is THAT big.
Thank you, Dannah.

RuthAuburn, ALAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent material!February 2, 2012RuthAuburn, ALAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5Although the target audience is older teen girls and college (20-somethings) age, my husband and I both read the book. We've been floored by her approach and by her explanation of what Godly intimacy is. We still have young children but have been inspired to make "yada" our focus every day for our marriage. She is a great storyteller and has excellent wit. She also did extensive research for this book and gave "real world" explanations and stories based on her research. Made for a very authentic and touching read.
sarahandbooks4 Stars Out Of 5Excellent, thoughtful, and provoking.November 19, 2011sarahandbooksQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5As an undergraduate student, one of my favorite research topics is the intertwining of faith and medieval Christianity's views on the human body and sexuality in medieval literature. However, it appears that in today's world, we seem not to have moved very far from the harmful, medieval view of human sexuality that denies sex as a gift from God. In Dannah Gresh's book What Are You Waiting For? The One Thing No One Ever Tells You About Sex, she explores what it means to have a healthy, fulfilling sexuality that mimics the Triune God.
Though sporting the typical "wait for marriage!" call, Gresh goes deeper to explain why Christ desires that his followers stay sexually pure outside of marital relationships. Drawing upon the Hebrew word yada (meaning to be deeply known and respected) throughout the book, Gresh weaves a text which explains that married sexual relationships are not about physical contact, but about knowing another person deeply, just as Christ knows the church. For example, Gresh writes that the word yada appears in Psalm 46:10 (Be still and know that I am God), and also another time in Genesis 4:1 (Adam lay [yada] with his wife). Though not these verses are not the only appearances of the word, Gresh uses these verses to explain that God created sex as a good thing for married couples.
Also tackling tough issues such as sexual pasts and the problem of pornography in today's society, What Are You Waiting For? is an easy, yet engaging read for any young woman seeking sexual purity in a world gone wild with promiscuity. Though the book does not promise marriage for every reader, it encourages that all readers, regardless of age or marital status seek sexual purity for the sake of the Kingdom of God.
