RV1 Stars Out Of 5Vine's complete expository dictionaryMay 13, 2015RVQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1The title is misleading. It is not complete, not even near complete. Looking up words is a hit & miss process. More often than not, they are not listed. Very aggravating to use. I would recommend staying away from this book.

I recomend it to anyone who reads the Bible for understanding of what GOD's word means.

In His wisdom, He ordained that this great blessing was written first in Hebrew and Greek. It is a fact that several different words in these original languages are often translated by only one word in English. Greek is particularly known as a language in which shades of meaning are rendered by different words for which there are no direct English equivalents. Being able to find the meaning of a key word in Greek has often given me a new and richer understanding of many seemingly familiar passages. I would far rather use a concise book than trying to wade through multiple internet entries. I did give Vine's 4 stars because it is not always possible to determine the original language's word in the passage I'm studying. For this I use an interlinear Hebrew and Greek Bible which has the literal English translation below the original language. (The words are also keyed to Strong's Concordance, as is Vine's, another very useful feature.) I am grateful that these reference works are available to us. My Vine's is an indispensable aid to my Bible study.
PeteAge: 25-34Gender: male1 Stars Out Of 5BasicFebruary 3, 2015PeteAge: 25-34Gender: maleThis book has strong Hebrew roots which is bad. The book opens with an arrogant statement from Merril F Unger. This person basically says if you do not know Hebrew then you can not have the beautiful deep meaning of Gods word.
As if God can not bring his word to the English as perfect as it is in the Hebrew tongue.
If we managed to construct a time machine, grab Moses and show him our efforts of that deep understanding I think we would be up for some rebuke.
If you read Matthews bible this book is of virtually no use.
If you are well acquainted with English then this book is useless.
Hebrew was recreated in the 19th century so a deep understanding from Hebrew is a poor way of looking at it. If your learning Greek or Hebrew then yes I might recommend this but if you are not doing that then all you need is google or dictionary.com.
If your learning Greek then you are better off with a book that teaches you the language.
Sorry to give this book this bad review but truly it is useless, it is way to basic.
Q: I know the early Vines of n.t. words has every word in the n.t. does this new work have every word of the o.t.? I have used the N.T exository very much and love it dearly. Hope this question is answered with a yes and I will buy it no problem.
No, this is not an exhaustive or comprehensive dictionary and not every word in the Old Testament will be included.
