We borrowed it from a friend and just had to purchase our own set. We read these as a read aloud while studying the Vikings in our home-school. What a great historical fiction series that is God honoring! None of us ever wanted to stop reading. It was very hard to put them down and move on to other things. The relationship between the brother and sister is very sweet and lots of great character traits to explore throughout the series. Highly recommended! You will want to read them in order and of course read them all!

This is a wonderful series for boys or girls, adult and young. I enjoyed it as much as they did. It was not only exciting and suspenseful, but a great example on how to depend on the Lord and to find joy in all things! This is a must read!!
Christine M. Irvin5 Stars Out Of 5October 30, 2009Christine M. IrvinRaiders From the Sea, is the first in a series of three books, known as the Viking Quest series, written by Lois Walfrid Johnson. In this opening volume, thirteen-year-old Briana and her fourteen-year-old brother Devin, are captured by Viking raiders who land in Ireland. The Vikings are led by a boy, a lad of about 15 years, named Mikkel, the son of a great Viking chieftain. Before she is captured, Briana saves Mikkel from drowning, not knowing who he is. She and her brother later find themselves captive on a ship headed for Norway, with Mikkel in charge. In gratitude for saving his life, Mikkel releases Devin before they get to Norway, but he refuses to let Briana go. Instead, she is forced to sail with the raiders and their load of captives all the way from Ireland to Norway. Briana comes from a God-loving family. Before she is captured, her father tells her, Whatever you face, if you ask God to help you, He will. When a treacherous storm threatens to destroy their ship, the Vikings pray to Thor for aid. Not getting any results, they threaten to start throwing captives overboard to appease their god. Briana prays to the Almighty God for help. After the storm subsides, the Vikings show Briana a grudging respect for saving their lives, even though she doesnt take credit for the miracle.Near the end of the book, after the ship has landed in Norway, Briana searches for a chance to escape, but will she make it? Follow her exciting tale of adventure in the next book, The Mystery of the Silver Coins.Even though this is a chapter book, there are black-and-white pencil sketches at the beginnings of each chapter depicting a scene from that particular part of the book. Sometimes its difficult to get kids interested in history. Historical fiction novels such as this one are a great way to introduce children to historical topics without them feeling like they might be learning something. Christian Children's Book Review
Elissa Kroeger5 Stars Out Of 5August 11, 2009Elissa KroegerMy 10 year old took these books out from the library and fell in love with the series. I was truly surprised at how much he knew about Viking history after reading them. He asked if he could own them because he wants to read them again and again...
Q: Any hero??? I have boys, so I'm looking for appropriate literature for them. Bree saves the young viking captain, but does Devon do anything heroic? Is Devon a strong masculine character even for a boy? Thanks.
Yes, Devon embarks on his own journey and is hero, along with his sister, in the story. Both children must figure out how to fight for their freedom, while still trusting that God knows what is happening and has a plan for their lives.

Tell us a little about yourself. God called me to be a writer when I was 9 1/2. I think of that when I look into the eyes of children and teens because I recognize their potential and want God's very best for them.
What was your motivation behind this project? Whenever I'm praying about a new project, and the entire time I'm developing it, I seek God for his leading. When I knew he was asking me to write about Vikings I wondered why. Then, as I researched, I learned that when Vikings came to raid they came in contact with Christianity. When enough of them became Christians, the raids stopped, and daring sailors such as Leif Erikson (a Christian) made world-changing discoveries. I also wondered how I could make this series a family story, and the Lord showed me how. In one way after another he helped me develop my characters into people I love. I'm glad that you love them too.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I want children and teens and all the adults who enjoy reading along with them to know one thing: If we ask God to help us in whatever we face he will give us the courage to win.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? My husband, Roy, is an exceedingly strong influence in my life. A teacher and also a counselor for kids who have been through the courts, he cares deeply about the well-being and the success of those he has helped. Our children, their spouses, and our grandchildren are also great sources of fun and inspiration.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I like putting cliff-hangers at the end of every chapter because I want you to love reading. I'm glad that you do. Thank you for your letters and e-mails telling me how this series has helped you. As my husband and I pray for our children and grandchildren every day we also pray for you. Thanks for telling us that God has answered our prayers by helping you grow spiritually. Thank you for depending on him to give you courage in your daily life and the hard times you face.
