It covers everything from sorting and discarding "stuff" to enriching your spiritual, emotional, and social life. Small Book, Tall Helping
You can read KarenâÂÂs new book, The Upside of Downsizing, in one sitting, but youâÂÂll be referring to this pocket size book repeatedly. Karen targets empty nesters and seniors, but even other ages will find some helpful hints here for practical things like getting your finances in order, de-cluttering your life, dividing up your treasures, and drawing closer to God. In her book, Karen uses her own and othersâ personal experiences to show you that simple is good, and that streamlining your life is not only possible, but beneficial. Her book may be small, but she offers a tall helping of fun, profitable ways to make downsizing truly a positive adventure.

Simplify and save
This upbeat book is about how to simplify your life, which happens to save money. Two great ideas that I embrace.
The author shares stories from her own life and friendsâ lives, which got me enthused to try some of her tips. This is a fun book to pick up and read one tip at a time, and I read one tip, then another and another. Just like potato chips, you canâÂÂt stop with just one.
One tip OâÂÂConnor shares is to choose experience over possessions. She and her husband told their adult children they love to spend some time with them, rather than receive another nice thingamajig for the house. Now they savor a good phone call or a walk along the ocean with family instead of a traditional gift.
A second idea is "Opening your heart and home" which has suggestions including inviting people to your home for soup and a salad bar, and cookies for dessert, which is simple to put together.
O'Connor reminds readers how a prayer partner can be ideal, and also explains that she is blessed to also have a "heartner", an idea new to me.
These tips work wonderfully for adults of any age who want to simplify and have a life that is enriched with experiences. If you like the idea and are a bit bogged down for practical ways to go ahead, this book is just the tool you need, and is a bargain at only 6 or 7 dollars.
