I have just finished my "first read" of "Unquenchable: Grow a Wildfire Faith that Will Endure anything," by Carol Kent. I have to confess. I am a huge fan of Carol Kent and was eagerly anticipating the release of her new book. I read through it in a handful of days, sometime sobbing aloud, as God touched my heart with how he has moved in her life and the lives of others who have been utterly devastated by the "firestorm." I plan to immediately take another journey through this book with my personal journal at my side. I need to linger longer here!

In Unquenchable Carol asks, "Why do some people weather such firestorms with their faith intact, able to heal and grow, while others become bitter, turn from God, and find themselves unwilling or unable to ever believe in God again? Why do some cling to or return to faith but merely limp along, while others soar in new boldness and strength?" I have asked these same questions — having, during one sad season, turned FROM God when a firestorm burned through my life.

Carol continues, "These are questions we all ask. Perhaps the reason we feel so much fear when our faith falters is that we are afraid we will be left with nothing but a cold ash heap. Having been on the ash heap and back to a vibrant, bold faith, I have found myself longing to find a way to encourage others not to lose hope, but instead to endure, to thrive, and to once again burn with a wildfire faith that takes our breath away."

Carol says, "I've walked through enough life to know better than to offer simple checklists and shallow action steps to transform a waning faith back into a roaring wildfire faith. There are no easy answers to such penetrating questions. But there are truths we can cling to, practices we can turn to, stories we can draw strength from, and God's mercy that we can fall on. There is hope and help." Unquenchable: Grow a Wildfire Faith that Will Endure Anything (p. 24). Zondervan. Kindle Edition.

Wonderful book that is encouraging for women who have established faith but seem to be falling away in discouragement. Timely and convicting and points one right back to scripture to see, believe and trust in God's word.

Most of us yearn for unquenchable faith, faith that is unwavering whatever our circumstances. Realistically though, most of us have times when God seems far away, and we find our faith wavering. Carol Kent has been through the fire, and she can help us take that flickering flame and turn it into a blazing wildfire. Carols unquenchable faith is an example to us all. In this book, through her personal stories, the stories of others, and Scripture, she helps us learn how to develop our own unquenchable faith. This book is an excellent, well-written tool to help us develop our own faith into a bonfire that will draw others to the Lord.

Carol's metaphor of how one's faith is compared to the different aspects of fire describes all the seasons of one's faith. Each chapter brings a different, yet building perspective on how our faith stands the test of trials, anquish and how God uses these moments to heal our wounds and turn the embers into a wildfire of enduring, everlasting faith. Best use of a metaphor I've ever heard that describes faith from all of life's struggles. Many examples of how real peoples faith have been tested and endured over time. Highly recommend this book!

This was a book I didn't want to end -- "Unquenchable" was unquenchable! Carol's personal story went dangerously deep as I realized that none of us are immune to facing that feeling of separation from God that comes at times in the firestorms of life. Unquenchable is filled with riveting stories of life challenges that led to positive change in people who openly shared within the pages. At first glance, this appeared to be a book about suffering, not my idea of something to be savored, but it quickly turned to be a book of hope, reality and inspiration. "Unquenchable" kindles a fire of desire within and touches often neglected areas of the heart that need to be opened. It's a lesson in humanity, forgiveness and understanding ourselves and others on a whole new level.
