Publisher's DescriptionPeople have their limits. Some choose to ignore them.
God’s power and love have no limits. So why do Christians put limits on their relationship with Him? We could be pursuing greater knowledge, experiencing deeper intimacy, and abiding in freer joy… and yet we routinely settle for mediocrity in our spiritual lives. But if you are ready to explode your self-imposed limits, Dr. Richard Blackaby can guide you through powerful and passionate insights revealed in this new book. By contrasting mediocrity with the spirituality of the great “heroes of the faith,” Dr. Blackaby shows you that you need not settle for less than God intends for you. God can do extraordinary things through ordinary people like you…but only when you allow Him to enlarge your spiritual capacity and overcome your self-imposed limits. “I hope this book inspires you to aim for a new level of walking with God. I want you to reach heights in your spiritual life that you never dreamed were possible, to experience God working through your life in a powerful new dimension, to hear words from God that will dramatically change your life and your world. I want to help you blow past any limitations you have set for yourself in your Christian life.” —Dr. Richard Blackaby From the Hardcover edition. Author BioDr. Richard Blackaby is president of Blackaby Ministries International as well as the Chancellor of the Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary. He’s the author of Putting a Face on Grace and coauthor of numerous books with his father, Henry Blackaby, including Spiritual Leadership, Hearing God’s Voice and Experiencing God Day by Day. A former senior pastor, he served as president of the Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary from 1993 to 2006. He was also managing editor and contributing author for The Blackaby Study Bible. He and his wife, Lisa, are the parents of three children, and live in Cochrane, Alberta.
From the Hardcover edition. ChristianBookPreviews.comIn his challenging new book, Unlimiting God, Richard Blackaby says, Each of us must decide how closely we want to walk with God. We can choose mediocrity in our Christian life, or we can resolve to go deeper spiritually, growing in our love for God and increasing our capacity to hear from Him.
According to Blackaby, as we mature in our Christian walk, we sometimes lose the excitement of our original encounter. We become less committed to Bible study and prayer, and if we allow it, distractions can creep in and crowd out our zeal for God and the work He wants to accomplish through us. Over time, we hear Gods voice less and less, and we wonder why He reveals himself to others and not to us. Obviously, the problem isnt God. As Blackaby says, If we have a shallow walk with God, we cannot expect to receive deep revelations from Him. Blackaby points out that when we are unwilling to commit ourselves wholeheartedly to our relationship with the Lord, we limit Gods work in us, and we place restrictions on the amount of service we are able accomplish. God knows our potential, and He wants to use our circumstances to develop our faith and increase our capacity to serve Him, but we must surrender and do whatever it takes to draw closer to Him. We also limit God when we limit what we believe God can or will do in our lives. When answers to our prayers dont come in the time or way we think they should, we stop prayingand we stop believingbecause we fail to realize that God allows troubles and difficulties so that we will become more mature, trusting believers. Instead of embracing the work God is doing through our troubles, we entertain doubt and place limitations on what God can do for and through us. Blackaby came to realize in his own life, The limit to my experience of Gods power rested not with God, but with me. His power is limitless; my faith is still growing. Unlimiting God examines the truths from scripture about how to remove the limits we place on God and ourselves. It discusses topics such as hearing Gods voice, allowing God to work through us, knowing God, experiencing Gods power in our lives, experiencing joy, and overcoming our own spiritual limits. I recommend this book to all believers. It challenges us to consider our level of commitment, and it challenges the Church to embrace change in order to reach a lost and dying world for Christ. - Nancy Brown, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com Publisher's WeeklyChristians, according to Blackaby, are satisfied to plod along in dreary, unrewarding spirituality and have chosen to limit their experience of God. If this former pastor and seminary president, well-known preacher and bestselling author has anything to say about it, Christians will soon blow past every limitation theyve ever set for themselves in their Christian life. The issue isnt God, he says, but us. Blackaby addresses some common limitations to a vital spiritual life, as well as how to overcome those limitations. The somewhat platitudinal list includes such statements as God will not reveal more truth to you than youre capable of receiving, God will match His assignments with your character and your walk with Him and We determine the amount of joy we experience from God. Blackaby offers stories and liberal use of Scripture throughout, encouraging Christians to revitalize their relationship with God. Readers wont find sparkling freshness here. They will, however, find help in rediscovering spiritual truths theyve heard before, this time told against the backdrop of Blackabys heritage (his father is noted Christian leader Henry Blackaby) and experience. Blackabys book is a serviceable first step toward the radical commitment he claims God requires. (Jan.) Copyright 2008 Reed Business Information.
