He wants us to have extraordinary lives, not normal and boring ones. The author, who is the senior pastor of NewSpring Church in South Carolina, uses the Biblical example of David to show how we can do great things for God. God has a plan for us, and we need to believe that. I thought the book was a decent read and the author made some good points about trusting God and doing more for Him. So, "hold on to your fork", because God has something great in store for everyone.
KristyColumbia, SCAge: 45-54Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5What's the fuss all about?July 25, 2013KristyColumbia, SCAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 3I have to admit, I bought Unleash! because I wanted to see what the big deal was all about. Perry's church, New Spring, is "big" in SC. I just wanted to see what all the fuss was over and if he really had anything new or different to say. Honestly, he didn't. It's all been said before. Perry Noble just said it in a new fresh way. It is great information for a new believer who has not "heard it all before" and it was a fresh reminder for those of us who have. Unleash! challenges us all to live like David did. To be a shepherd when it's time to be a shepherd, to be a King when it's time to be a King and to still follow God when we have failed miserably.
Perry Noble weaves funny, real life stories into teaching that reminds us that God created us for a purpose. To finish the race. To actually cross the finish line. No matter how long it takes us to get there. By the end of the book, all things I have all heard before, I was in tears, realizing that I need to get back in the race and finish what God started in me. Unleash! Will help you do just that. This book was a fresh reminder for me. We all need that from time to time.
bookwormPennsylvaniaAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Unleash: Taking the Next Step with GodJuly 23, 2013bookwormPennsylvaniaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4Unleash is a inspirational book that compels Christians to let go what is holding them back from living the full life that God wants us to through Jesus. The author tells some powerful Christian truths through humorous and heartwarming stories as well as practical steps to take in applying the truths to our Christian walk. Perry Noble also has a way with words and the way he teaches does not convict you, but encourages you to take the next step with Christ as well as to grow closer in our relationship with God through trust, devotion, and obedience. I normally don't read books like this or from pastors of mega-churches because I find them to be proud people who promise that if you give your life to Christ, you will have a great life, however, I found that this book and author was very realistic and humble. I did not see any evidence that this author was proud and everything he wrote about seemed to be more realistic. After reading this book, it made me wonder what God has in store for my life and I can't wait to find out.
SeanOregonAge: 25-34Gender: male3 Stars Out Of 5Normal is bad?June 3, 2013SeanOregonAge: 25-34Gender: maleQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 2Unleash! Includes some truly great (i.e. traditional, biblical) wisdom about finding strength and comfort by trusting in God and relying on other people for counsel and companionship. Self-isolation and self-reliance really can keep us from living the lives God has willed and commanded us to live. Unfortunately, the book ended up being about 50% encouraging, instructive material, and 50% inspirational jargon. I would have appreciated less jumped-up hyper-life language and a little more practical advice on living steadily and faithfully day by day.
pastor2519West Point, UTAge: 55-65Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5God uses ordinary people for great stuffSeptember 17, 2012pastor2519West Point, UTAge: 55-65Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Perry Noble, the pastor at a small (about 16,000 average attendance at 7 locations throughout South Carolina) southern church, has written a book, and it's just what you would expect from Perry if you've listened to his sermons or podcasts or read his updates: "A letter from Pastor P to New Spring Church". UNLEASH! (Tyndale House, 2012) is down home wisdom, grounded in and backed by Scripture, about how to live the life that God intended us to live. A life that's free from the restraints that hold so many of us back from the things that God has in store for us. A life that leaves normal in the dust as it sets out to embrace the power of the Holy Spirit.
Most people have heard the story of King David, and Noble uses that as the focus of UNLEASH. David may have done some great things in his life time, but he sure didn't start out as a giant killer. When Samuel came looking for the future king that he was to anoint, David's father didn't even present him before the prophet. Samuel finally asks if there isn't another son, and is told, yes, but he's a nobody, a nothing, and he's out tending the sheep. God uses the strangest people to do the most wonderful things, and this book is full of examples of how every one of us is destined for greatness in God's eyes, and then there are some ideas about how to let God take us to that place.
Noble says that a lot depends on how we see God: "if He's small, manageable and normal
then our view of what He can do through us is going to be about the same, but if we realize how great He really is, then what we can do, through Christ who strengthens us" takes on a whole new meaning.
This book is a little bit autobiography, as the author shares a lot of the hurt and pain in his life; it's a little bit memoir, as he shares personal stories, his and others, that explain how faith works in their lives. And it's a lot of encouragement and love. It's full of appropriate scriptures, and suddenly some of those things that we've always wondered about make sense.
If you've been wondering "is this all there is?" the answer is "no!" and UNLEASH is the book that will help you figure out what your next step should be!
