Publisher's Description

A husband and son abandoned to forge a path alone.
A young woman who sacrificed her dreams.
How will the God of grace and hope help them find their way?

At nineteen years old, Old Order Amish Jolene Keim was on the brink of happily-ever-after when everything changed, stealing the future she expected and burdening her with an unbearable decision. For the next ten years, Jolene throws herself into family life—and then she meets Andy Fisher. The horse trainer and father to a sweet nine year-old challenges her and holds up a mirror to issues Jolene has been unwilling to face.

Andy is cautious about his deepening friendship with Jolene, but he believes she knows the truth about him – that he is a grass widower. As a man whose wife has abandoned him six years past, he is unable to divorce or remarry according to the Amish ways. Andy has wrestled with God concerning his reality, and he had found peace with the solitary future facing him…until he met Jolene.

As Andy and Jolene find themselves confronted by difficult choices, will they trust in God's guidance—or will the allure of their deepening friendship only lead to further temptation?

A Love Undone by Cindy Woodsmall is a great book to read while snuggling under blankets on a cold winter day...or night.

Jolene is the oldest in her family; she has 5 other siblings. She has a secret; she loves to paint. According to her Amish district this is a no-no, so she needs to paint in secret. Jolene was preparing to get married to Van when tragedy struck. Her parents died in a torrential rain storm and got washed away in the river. Jolene made the decision to be her siblings' caregiver. She didn't want the family to be split apart. Van didn't like that idea. He didn't want an instant family so they made the decision to end their relationship.

Jolene dedicated 10 years of her life raising her brothers and sisters. She seemed content with how things turned out. Then she meets Andy Fisher, who is a grass widower. A grass widower is someone whose spouse left him/her. They cannot remarry, unless this absent spouse is dead. I never heard of that term until I read this book. Andy agreed to help rehabilitate some horses and had them brought to his Uncle Lester's farm. Jolene would cook and clean for Lester. That's how they met. She also ends up helping Andy with the horses. Andy was not happy about that...at first.

There's so much more to the story. It's a sweet story I think. It shows that God can give us our heart's desire, He can heal our pain and bring us joy in this life. To be able to find contentment in situations that you might find yourself in. Like it says in Philippians 4:11 NASB = Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.

I have received a complementary copy of this book from the publisher in return for my honest review.

One of the most romantic books I've ever read. It left me breathless, rocked with the same deep emotions that Andy and Jolene experience. From devastating loss to hesitant hope to crushing defeat and ultimately incredible joy. I was an emotional basket case by the end of this read.

I love Jolene -- for the sacrifices she has made, the spunk that keeps her going, the pure love for her siblings which transcends common sense and harsh reality sometimes. We should all learn to love so completely and unselfishly. I so wanted a happily ever after for her and Woodsmall does deliver but she doesn't make it easy! For Jolene or the reader!

Andy is stalwart and kind and understanding...and unattainable. Oy. The heartache. The push and pull of wills and hearts. The determination to do the right thing at any cost. About broke my heart. To say I was emotionally engaged is an understatement.

An unforgettable story that celebrates God's grace and hope and His unfailing love.

A Love Undone, by Cindy Woodsmall, is a wonderful book. It is the story of forbidden love, according to the rules of the Old Order Amish in one Pennsylvania district.

Jolene Keims parents died in a tragic accident two weeks before her wedding at age nineteen. She decided to raise her young siblings on her own, losing her fianc in the process. Ten years later, she meets Andy Fisher and begins developing an attraction toward him. Andy believes that Jolene knows that he is a grass widower, a man whose wife has left him (and his son). According to the Amish, he cannot divorce her. When he learns of her attraction, it complicates both of their lives, especially because he reciprocates the attraction. Both are thrust into difficult situations due to the rules of their Amish districts.

I enjoyed this book very much. Cindy Woodsmall paints a lovely picture of a couple torn apart by their forbidden emotions. I especially like the side stories of Ray and Glen, and everyone could use a friend as supportive as Lester. I also appreciated the parts regarding Jolenes siblings appreciation of her sacrifice so that they could remain together as a family.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Amish Fiction.

It's been a while since I've read one of Cindy's books and how I have missed them! This was one wonderful love story about two very strong people. They were strong in their faith, strong in staying true to their family and the Amish beliefs, and willing to sacrifice themselves to do what was right in the eyes of their church elders and community. I would very highly recommend this book as a fantastic book.

I was given a copy of this book by Blogging For Books in return for an honest review. This is my honest opinion and recommendation of this book.

Cindy Woodsmall has a way of taking an ordinary Amish story and turning it into an extraordinary one. I devoured all 336 pages of this book. As I began to delve into the story, I immediately knew this wasn't going to be a typical Amish book. I highly enjoy learning more about the Amish faith and their day to day lives, but it can be a little redundant at times. It's refreshing to read a story that doesn't follow the typical "mold."

I really enjoyed getting to know Jolene and her family. The obstacles she had to overcome were every bit as daunting as the author made them out to be, and I could feel Jolene's struggles right along with her. Ray added a different element to the story, offering insight from someone who Jolene had worked her best on, but couldn't quite let go of. I'll admit, I didn't quite like Andy when we first meet him in the story. I think the author did this on purpose, though, because as the story progresses, I fall in love with him just like Jo does.

Both Andy and Jolene, and in some ways Ray, have a lot to overcome in this story. Though Jolene is content and works her best to please God and follow His word, there are parts of herself she keeps hidden and struggles with fear, doubt, and anger. Andy accepts his position in life, until he meets Jo. Then he struggles to again overcome the reality of his situation. The imagery of the Dogwood blooming year round was beautiful in that it reminds the characters the God is there for them, watching over them, no matter what. His ways are perfect and flawless, and in time we will hopefully come to accept, and maybe understand them.

Overall, I highly recommend this story of "shattered dreams", of "love undone", and "God's unfailing grace."
