Tell us a little about yourself. I have spent nearly a lifetime studying the Biblical concept of Stewardship and the Scriptural relationship to money. I have been both a businessman and a pastor. Most of my working life has been in the financial arenas which has lead to much counseling and dealing with the economy. I was first an English major and have taught English in high school and college. I have a Master of Divinity, an MBA in International Business, and a Ph.D. in Business Management. I have also been to Law School. With this seemingly excessive education, I have been able to integrate areas of expertise into the world of economics. I also have been humbled, so I know who God is and what my limitations are. I believe my worth is from those experiences of life more than this privileged education.
What was your motivation behind this project? I wrote the bestseller "Exploding the Doomsday Money Myths, Why It's not Time to Panic" in 1995 which became a bestseller because it took on the pundits of doom and gloom writing nonsense at the time about America's demise. On the heels of that book, came "Lie 2K" which took on the same self appointed financial experts who now were suddenly computer experts pushing the same "chicken little message" which of course never happened. Now, I will be right again as I deal with the paranoia being created by this same group of conspiracy theorists and doomsayers who say America is surely going to implode during this recession.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? This is my first totally Christian book of eight. It deals with the pressures created by the economy, divorce, bankruptcy, and is filled with practical advice that is Scripturally based. My prayer is that people will find answers to perplexing problems by the no nonsense approach to personal, business, and national matters. I don't believe credit is evil or that bankruptcy brings reproach from God. These issues are held up in the Bible as part of our legal system. You can read the rest. I hope to fill a void in someone's life by encouraging them to keep God first, and their lives under control.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I write Introductions to my books last. I think during that last segment of writing, I realized that America is still the greatest country on earth even with its problems. God is using America to evangelize the earth and when He is finished with that project, we'll more than likely be gone.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I have been inspired by John Grisham, so I wrote one recently published novel and two that are set to be published soon. I love Mark Twain's "Joan of Arc." Charlton Heston plugged me into the King James Version of the Bible when I helped raise capital for his Bible Video projects. My all time heroes are Roy Rogers and Ronald Reagan. I love Blue Grass Music. My favorite movie is "Ann of Green Gables" and my two favorite books are the Bible and Pilgrim's Progress.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I will play golf anywhere or any time.
