Publisher's Description

The award-winning author of the dearest dorothy novels, called by Guideposts "one of today’s most popular and bestloved Christian humorists," motivates readers to laugh, play, and relish the good things in life.

Charlene Ann Baumbich has always spoken and written about the layers of life just as she sees them—slightly off-center, mostly dead-on, and always through the lens of grace. With Don’t Miss Your Life! Charlene Ann Baumbich’s creative pedal is to the floor, her cranky gallbladder has been "left behind," and her storytelling is in full swing. Fasten your seatbelts!

With her signature warmth and candor, Charlene offers readers insight on how to become their own best storytellers of what God is doing in their lives. She does far more than show why it is so important to slow down, enjoy our blessings, and not take things so seriously. She encourages everyone to build a "memory portfolio" of special life moments, and in doing so to grow in wisdom, learning how to see God’s hand in our daily lives is the key to a rich and fulfilling life.

ChristianBookPreviews

Finding the freedom to laugh and the grace to live sums up Charlene Ann Baumbich’s twelfth book, Don’t Miss Your Life. It’s about probing through the layers of life and addressing the hurry of here and now so that we don’t miss living the life of today. Baumbich’s goal is to encourage her readers to keep a “memory portfolio” that will capture precious moments from one’s past. Her book is packed with examples from her own life to help stimulate each reader’s rusty memory wheels.

Some of the author’s main points include: establishing a foundation of friends and fellowship; getting over spiritual “constipation;” questioning assumptions; creating balance in life; not crashing with a splat; saying bye-bye to negative thinking; waking up to one’s senses; weathering life’s storms; and accepting the great I AM. The reader will find Baumbich’s easy-going style most enjoyable when read for leisure since the pages are filled with personal experience stories that serve as ironic, profound or just plain bizarre examples for her points. Apart from being an award-winning journalist and the author of the six-book Dearest Dorothy series, her ability to laugh at herself is her best credential for writing this book.

Baumbich earnestly shows her readers how to live life one step at a time and how to cherish the moments while actually living them. She sums it up well in her last chapter: “But before you can capture that moment—one in the string of moments that comprise your life—you’ve got to live it! God’s breath already stirs within you” (p. 252). Her readers will be reminded that it is good to dream and then to take the time to catch those dreams and turn them into reality. In following her own advice, she actually went bungee jumping as her prayerful husband watched from below!

The strengths of this book are found in Baumbich’s upbeat voice, conversational style, and her creative word choices. At times it does take her a while actually to get to her main points. Also, some readers may not like her style of writing, which reads like an email since she uses parentheses with unnecessary exclamations such as “HAHAHAHA!” or uncommon words like “YOWZA.” This book is best recommended to adults looking for a relaxing but fun-loving book that will stir one’s mind and memories toward freedom, laughter and grace. – Laurie Filson, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com

Publisher's Weekly

Baumbich, an award-winning journalist and author of the Dearest Dorothy fiction series, has set out to accomplish what few Christian humorists have succeeded in achieving: making her readers laugh deep from the belly while simultaneously trouncing on their faulty “religious” beliefs. Baumbich’s writing style is such that readers will feel as though she's conversing with herself and they are her most fortunate eavesdropping audience. The author’s comic rehashing of life’s more ironic and bizarre happenings will be valued by readers of both genders. Baumbich encourages her fans to create their own memory portfolios of treasured moments to see God’s bounty at every turn (or detour). Readers are also treated to poignant essays on the power of imagination, the importance of questioning assumptions, awakening every sense, living in a balanced way or falling with a splat. Baumbich’s text is just what the doctor ordered for a time such as this; laughter is good medicine indeed and there are plenty of guffaws to be found on every page. Editorial Reviews

"Charlene has the charm of putting a sparkle in even the most trivial of experiences... making them bright spots... I felt like a window was opening from a narrow tunnel -- and ahead were shiny spots of joy... making even what could be dull and drab take on an appearance of brightness." -- Barbara Johnson, author of Splashes of Joy in the Cesspools of Life
"Charlene's outrageous humor will tickle you with life-giving laughter!" -- Patsy Clairmont, author of God Uses Cracked Pots and Under His Wings
