Contrary to popular belief, we do not have to be perfect to do God's work. Look no further than the twelve disciples whose many weaknesses are forever preserved throughout the pages of the New Testament. Jesus chose ordinary men - fisherman, tax collectors, political zealots - and turned their weakness into strength, producing greatness from utter uselessness. MacArthur draws principles from Christ's careful, hands-on training of the original twelve disciples for today's modern disciple - you.
winter795 Stars Out Of 5Twelve Ordinary MenAugust 26, 2014winter79I enjoyed this book so much because it was written with such insight into each disciple's life. It made their relationship with Jesus so vivid. It touched me to read about each one. It even made it clearer about Judas. It is a moving account of their lives. John MacArthur is a wonderful teacher.

I had never thought of the disciples in the way John MacArthur presented them. The book gave me a hole different perspective on the men who built the church and gave their lives for its continued success in saving lives for Christ.

It lets us know that "ordinary" people have a chance to serve our Savior in a profound way just as the disciples did with their human frailties as long as we depend on our Savior and not ourselves.

You'll probably be amazed by this book. MacArthur mostly refers to scripture (which is good). But he also adds findings from historical research that both add to the testimony of these historic 12 men, and add to our understanding of them.

That is exciting fo me anyway, to have something in common with one of the disciples, a very good read!!
