The author has included testimonies that help to give insight to the uninformed and he writes with an attitude of love and concern for all who struggle to understand. He brings integrity and love and compassion in seeking a solution while honoring God.
Jeff Winter5 Stars Out Of 5September 20, 2010Jeff WinterDr. Campbell's timely, thoughtful and well-written book is a must read for every believer and leader of a Christian organization. It is the best written book on the market that helps individuals, organizations and churches think through how they might establish a ministry to those who have same-sex attraction. It is both theologically and biblically sound as well as extremely practical. No other book on the market speaks to how to do ministry with those who struggle with same-sex attraction. I wish this book was written twenty years ago. Praise God for Dr. Campbell!!
Dr. Stephen W. Hiemstra5 Stars Out Of 5September 19, 2010Dr. Stephen W. HiemstraHow does a pastor respond to someone seeking care for unwanted same sex attractions? Campbell turns to the story of the woman caught in adultery. Jesus asked, Woman, Has no one condemned you? No one, Sir. Then neither do I, Go now and leave your life of sin. (John 8:10-11). Campbell notes two principles in Jesus response: truth and grace. The truth is found in the admonition: Go now and leave your life of sin. The grace is found in the statement: neither do I condemn you. The book has three parts: Analysis: Your Church, Christs Body.Approach: Overcoming Controversy.Action: Building Ministry.Campbell starts with the current status of your church and then provide informationsboth scriptural and practicalabout the major controversies in church responses to homosexuality. He finally talks about the ministry challenges in ministry to homosexuals and provides links to ministry resources.Campbell speaks from more than 20 years of experience as a pastor in the Presbyterian Church (USA). He recounts stories of families and individuals that he interviewed who have struggled with unwanted same-sex attractions and overcome them. His personal interface with the gay community arose from both family experiences and from his own ministry in church located close to an AIDs clinic. He is passionate about the Gospel and has a shepherds heart for those in need.Bills book is overdue. From my own walk with the Lord, I was ministered to as a young person by staff and clergy who were later dismissed for gay relationships. In my role as clerk of session in my home church, I found myself whipsawed by church controversies over ordination standards with little guidance other than scripture and personal experiences. As I now approach ministry myself, I feel a deep need to be informed scripturally and practically in helping all people who come in need. Turning Controversy into Church Ministry is a book that fills this need.
