Centered on "living books," this creative approach to history integrates elements of both Charlotte Mason and Classical methods.
Short, very informal introductions are written directly to the student and open up each topic with a distinctly Christian perspective. Suggestions for activities or writing exercises are often included as well. The booklists follow, with selected annotations on what pages or sections to read and appropriate grade levels for each entry. Incredibly flexible in nature, families can proceed at the pace that's best for their students as they select "spines," biographies, in-print books, and out-of-print classics from the extensive lists.
Proceeding chronologically, entries include lists for Cain and Abel, Hammurabi, Mummies, Hieroglyphics, King Solomon, Hezekiah, Persian Empire and other relevant unit-study topics.
Grades 5-12; may be adapted for younger siblings. 298 pages, softcover, spiral-bound. Full resource list is included at the back of the book.

Michelle Miller's Truth Quest Beginnings has been a great companion for our study of Creation/Old Testament/Ancients/Egypt. We were blessed with a complimentary copy to use for our family's history study. It was with great expectation that we began using Truth Quest Beginnings and were overjoyed to learn that it held to its promise of being a "Chronological Investigation Enlivening Its History, Art, Culture and Ideas and Probing The Spiritual Truths Of History." Michelle Miller's writing is relaxed in tone but potent in expressing Biblical truths that are timeless. She shares personal experiences and is super expressive. It is as if we have a friend taking us on a historical journey to deeper understanding. I love the resources she suggests in the Dig In! & Audio/Visual sections. As a busy mom of 9, I love that she has done a thorough job of designating what resources are appropriate for each age group for a deeper study of topics. I can quickly order from the library all of the reading books for our varied aged children. Her curriculum is not a comprehensive study but more of an overview of each topic that invites the students to investigate more deeply through other resources, books, and dvds. More thought and discussion is encouraged through writing assignments, too. We have enjoyed this curriculum so much that we plan on following our chronological study of history using Truth Quest as our guide. Thank you
