Gutierrez is considered by many to be the world's preeminent liberation theologian and this volume reprents his apologetic for this 'new way' of doing theology. Part I consists of his defense of his work before the theology faculty of the Catholic Institute of Lyons. Part II consists of his exploration of the role of social sciences and its methodologies in theology. Part III consists of his treatment of two Vatican instructions, "Instruction on Certain Aspects of the Theology of Liberation," and "Christian Freedom and Liberation." This book is a good read for North Americans who live in relative wealth, compared to the citizens of the third world. Gutierrez illustrates how Liberation Theology specifically addresses the conditions of poverty and injustice.
