Publisher's Description

Will you choose to believe in God’s goodness?
Without a strong confidence in God’s goodness, it’s impossible to build a foundation from which you can cultivate gratefulness, trust, obedience, and rest, which lead to transformation. If you don’t believe that God is good, you will become cynical and angry when difficulties come your way. You won’t be able to trust Him with all of your life.

Everyone is tempted to question the goodness of God. Trusting in His Goodness encourages you to embrace God’s goodness, learn to rest in Him, and experience transformation. In each chapter, you’ll learn a different aspect of God’s goodness and discover how to create “holy habits.” Be encouraged as you learn to trust God and His goodness.

Includes discussion questions for individuals or groups at the end of each chapter.

Can you trust God? Is God someone we can trust, not only when things are going well, but when life is one catastrophe after another? Rather than spouting off unsatisfying pat answers, authors Mimi Wilson and Shelly Cook Volkhardt take the reader through a series of easy-to-understand lessonsdigging into scripture to find Gods promises, and illustrating each point with examples from their own experience or the experiences of those they know. Gods goodness, the very essence of His character, forms a firm foundation for a series of practical applications anyone can relate to. Describing the Gospel as creation, redemption, re-creation, the authors first explain how God made us exactly according to His perfect specifications. Of course, we arent perfect now. Our sinful natures keep us from a pure and holy God, no matter how good we try to be. The writers clearly explain how Jesus provided a means of reconnecting with our Creator. Finally, Mimi and Shelly demonstrate how God re-creates us in our brokenness, using the ugly things in our lives to make us beautiful. What an incredible reason for hope! Each chapter ends with a prayer, suggestions for Holy Habits, and unusually thoughtful questions to spark group discussion. I would whole-heartedly recommend this book. I wish they would have written it years ago! My one complaint? Its plain that the book is only intended for women. In spite of that, Ill be buying copies for a number of men I know who are also struggling with these issues. Just with the title, Trusting in His Goodness: A Woman's Guide to Knowing God's Purpose, had the potential to be a book I would love. The trusting in the goodness of God is a subject dear to my heart. Their is little in this life that we can experience and survive without the goodness of God. I've always known God was (and continues to be) good, but it wasn't until my husband and I experienced the pain and loss of a miscarriage that that truth became something I cherished and clinged to. God is good, all the time. I was eager to read Trusting in His Goodness by Mimi Wilson and Shelly Volkhardt, but as I got into the first few chapters I was a bit disappointed. While I find hearing the experiences of others useful in relating truth, it felt there were so many stories being told that it distracted from the point the authors were trying to make. There was a lot of truth mixed with emotion, but when the emotion falls away do we know and believe enough of the Truth to hold us up? Throughout the first half of the book, I found myself thinking How does this relate to God's goodness? There were chapters that didn't really address why God is good, which is what I expected and would benefit a struggling believer or seeker. There were also a lot of tangents without a consistent, whole vision of God's goodness. With that being said, I'd wholeheartedly suggest chapters 8-10. For me, those chapters could have been the entire book. That's where the authors really hit on God's goodness as well as the why and how we should trust him. That seemed to hit the point of the title. It would have been better if they started and ended the book with those chapters. It would have been a much shorter book, but straight to the point.
