I purchased this TrueU video set because I really loved "Does God Exist? Does God Exist? greatly appeals to me because it feeds my analytical, Christian mind and educated me in popular, modern, scientific topics in a way that is helpful for intelligently conversing with thinking, educated people who believe differently than I do. Is the Bible Reliable? does the same.
Who is Jesus?, likewise, did an excellent job of astutely defending the existence of Jesus, His crucifixion and resurrection. This part, in my opinion, did fulfill Focus on the Familys stated goal of building a comprehensive case. I was disappointed, however, because it spent much time evangelizing which has nothing to do with building a case. I already have a lifetime of instruction in popular protestant evangelism and was frustrated that hours of this study were spent repeating what most target viewers would already well know and believe. I would have preferred that Focus on the Family put more effort into equipping Christian students to converse coherently about Jesus with shrewd, analytical non-believers.
I was upset by the last lesson. The title of the last lesson was Handling the Questions. The lead up was informing Christian students that they would be challenged by extremely hard question like What about people who have never heard of Jesus? I was anticipating that I would FINALLY get useful guidance to help formulate satisfactory answers to some of these common, difficult questions from a reputable Christian source outside my own personal Bible study. I was extremely disappointed when the study ended by assigning obligation to Christian students to be equipped to face these questions without giving ANY help in building a case. What a burden!
My conclusion: Who is Jesus? was well worth watching to me because of the excellent job defending the life of Jesus. I subtracted one star because I didnt like the preachy approach and I subtracted another star because I felt that it fell short of its stated goal and the expectations I had based on the approach of the other two TrueU studies.
This presentation is a great tool to help young and old learn about the layout of God's plan of salvation both in the old and new testament scriptures. It makes God's intentions for man's salvation from falling from grace evident from the garden to the resurrection.
It is a great tool for both the intellectual and for the faithful to get a clearer picture that God truly loves us and has our well being in mind.
Another great video series by Del Tackett! He explains things so well....and he makes us think deeper about everything. We saw the 'Project Truth' video series in our Sunday School class and so I knew I also had to get 'Who is Jesus?'
Thank you, Dr. Tackett for the wonderful way you enlighten us.
