Aaron is interested in the little spitfire from the moment her long hair falls from her cap, but when he tells her of his plan to stake his own claim, farther west and up in the mountains, she draws away. Kylie's focus is to "prove up" her homestead, sell it for a profit, move back east, and live the rest of her life in civilization.
But all Kylie's future plans are put in jeopardy when someone tries to burn her out. Who would attack her way out here? Aaron and Kylie suspect it's the local land baron--but Gage Coulter denies any involvement. He does suggest a way for Kylie to stay safe, though--marry him! More attacks scare Kylie near to death, and she can't face living on her own any longer. Should she tie her fortune to Gage or Aaron? Either choice will put an end to her dreams of a civilized life. And what if marrying doesn't stop the attacks after all?

Kylie Wilde is the youngest sister--and the most civilized. Her older sisters might be happy dressing in trousers and posing as men, but Kylie has grown her hair long and wears skirts every chance she gets. It's a risk--they are homesteading using the special exemptions they earned serving in the Civil War as "boys"--but Kylie plans to make the most of the years before she can sell her property and return to the luxuries of life back East.
Local land agent Aaron Masterson is fascinated with Kylie from the moment her long hair falls from her cap. But now that he knows her secret, can he in good conscience defraud the U.S. government? And when someone tries to force Kylie off her land, does he have any hope of convincing her that marrying him and settling on the frontier is the better option for her future?
"Another great laugh-out-loud historical romance with memorable characters who have charm, style, grace, and a bit of mischief."

ainnirbard5 Stars Out Of 5Late NightsMarch 15, 2016ainnirbardQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Review from my blog about the series:
Mary Connealy wrote Tried & True, Now & Forever and Fire & Ice. Each book covers one of the three Wilde sisters. Each sister fought in the War Between the States and when land became available for time served in the war, their father dragged them all west to build an empire. But the Wilde sisters have to pose as men, just like they did in the war, or they will lose their land. Plan is working well till the local land agent finds out the youngest sister is actually a woman and not a man.
I like Mary Connealy books. They are what I term a "light" read. Fun, enjoyable, but not too serious or detailed like murder mysteries, non-fiction, etc. Lot of nights with little sleep since the books are fast paced and I didn't want to stop reading!

Never mind that they disguise themselves as brothers, but who in their right mind could mistake these exotic beauties as trail seasoned cowboys with their alluring eyes, tiny figures, and dainty hands; conveniently covered in britches, hats, and gloves? Land agent Aaron Masterson isn't fooled for one minute when the youngest member of the Wilde family literally falls off her house and into his arms.
What was old man Wilde thinking; leaving his daughters on homesteads of their own, to fend for themselves and fight off irate land owners? And what about their tales of fighting in the war and deserving their soldier's two year exemption on their parcels of prime Idaho farm land? Aaron Masterson has his hands full, especially when Kylie Wilde is determined to leave the frontier if he requires her to remain on her property for five years instead of three. On top of that complication is the fact that someone is determined to scare Kylie out of her wits, with fiery arrows and coiling reptiles.
Enjoy this delightful and often comedic story about life and love when "boy meets girl" where least expected . . . .at the edge of a roof.

I love the Wilde sisters. I agree that pants are way more comfortable than dresses. Kylie seemed a little too girlie at times for a person who lived through two years of war as a guy but I still liked her and I liked Aaron. They were great together. I received this book from book fun.org for a fair and honest opinion.

Each successive book just seems to get better and better. Her books are funny and so much fun to read. As anticipated Tried & True was a great story!
I loved the characters, well, all except the bad guys. The three Wilde sisters are so different and yet when things get tough they pull together. I loved Kylie's story and I'm definitely looking forward to Shannon's and Bailey's when they come out.
Tried & True has one of the neatest covers, bright, colorful, and the neatest raised scrollwork on the corners, completely matching the great story within. Even if I didn't already enjoy Mary Connealy's writing I would probably have picked up this book based on the cover and publisher alone.
A great western and a wonderful story! Tried & True is the first book Mary Connealy's latest series and is a must read. Don't miss it!
(I received a copy of this book from the publisher via The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are entirely my own.)

developed characters situated in the wild west after the end
of the Civil War. The author also captured the attitudes and
social realities of the times. With the ending of the war there
were a lot of issues and tough questions the survivors faced
that were addressed. The author was able to weave together
intrigue, drama, suspense, mystery, romance, shenanigans,
historical history, deceit, betrayal, viciousness, greed, hatred
from the past and present. The book was also filled with faith,
friendship, trust, forgiveness and love.
