Publisher's Description

Western society is in crisis, the result of our culture's embrace of naturalism and postmodernism. At the same time, the biblical worldview has been pushed to the margins. Christians have been strongly influenced by these trends, with the result that the personal lives of Christians often reflect the surrounding culture more than the way of Christ, and the church's transforming influence on society has waned. In Kingdom Triangle, J.P. Moreland issues a call to recapture the drama and power of kingdom living. He examines and provides a penetrating critique of these worldviews and shows how they have ushered in the current societal crisis. He then lays out a strategy for the Christian community to regain the potency of kingdom life and influence in the world. Drawing insights from the early church, he outlines three essential ingredients of this revolution: ? Recovery of the Christian mind ? Renovation of Christian spirituality ? Restoration of the power of the Holy Spirit He believes that evangelical Christianity can mature and lead the surrounding society out of the meaningless morass it finds itself in with humility and vision.

Author Endorsements

“Here’s a compelling call for renewing the mind, replenishing the soul and releasing the Spirit. This is vintage Moreland:passionate, practical, well-reasoned and ultimately hopeful. It’s an important book that must not be ignored.” —Lee Strobel, author, The Case for the Real Jesus
“I profited greatly from reading Kingdom Triangle. J. P. Moreland is one of the keenest thinkers of our day; in this book he will challenge you and in the surprise ending perhaps provoke you. But if so it will lead to a very healthy discussion that is much needed within the evangelical church. A fine and thoughtful piece of work.” —Chuck Colson, founder, Prison Fellowship
“J. P. Moreland helps us position ourselves for effective action on a number of issues vital to the Christian faith in our times. With clear insight and lucid explanations, Moreland puts the thoughtful Christian in a position to understand the issues swirling about us today and to return to a responsible presentation of ‘the way of Christ’ as a way of knowledge. No one is better prepared by thought and experience to do this than Moreland. He knows about knowledge and about knowledge of the way of Christ. It is his life.” —Dallas Willard, author, from the Foreword
“J. P. Moreland reveals the hunger in each of us to be part of a grander story and systematically shows how postmodernism and naturalism fail to adequately address this hunger and to offer a coherent way of living. A powerful assessment of the Western church and culture climate with practical, compassionate insights for the Christian journey.” —Ravi Zacharias, author and speaker
“This book is gutsy. As I was reading it, I felt like the proverbial frog in the simmering water getting a wake-up call about my spiritual life.” —Daniel B. Wallace, co author, Reinventing Jesus
“J. P. Moreland has a first class mind and a heart to match. Kingdom Triangle is an astute analysis for our culture and its mindset and a profound way forward for the evangelical church. I highly recommend it.” —Lance Pittluck, senior pastor of the Vineyard Church of Ana

In Kingdom Triangle Moreland speaks against ethical and moral scientism and subsequent relativism. He points to the global South and its precipitous growth in Christian conversions enabled and validated by supernatural testimony. In contrast the West seems to be waning in Christian growth, influence, and belief in the supernatural. In this postmodern world, especially in the West, empiricism has infiltrated the church and is denaturing it of its supernatural roots. Scientism has dismissed Christian thought as simplistic, relative subjectivism. Moreland says, Religion is not thought to be a domain of fact and knowledge, so there are no experts (p. 92). His solution is found in three foci: (1) Recover The Christian Mind, (2) Renovate The Soul, and (3) Restore The Spirits Power. We must pursue a development of the life and mind . . . the cultivation of an inner life . . . learning to live in and use the Spirits power and the authority of the Kingdom of God. . . (p. 196). Kingdom Triangle is, in my view, a critical and important work at this pivotal juncture of history. If a survey of our time can teach us anything, then it teaches us that we are in a grave time, perhaps even the culmination of the age. We have a choice to be co-laborers or to withdraw and stand down in dispassionate malaise or fear. Moreland says we were created for greatness and we desire drama (pp. 19, 21, 192). I agree. He argues for Gods present supernatural involvement in the creation. It is at the center of the meaning of cosmic history and [our] individual story. . . . Join me in the revolution. This is your opportunity. Seize it and rejoice in it (pp. 192-199). I encourage you to read Kingdom Triangle and to respond with boldness to its message and call to be transformed by the renewing of your mind, renovation of your soul, and to open to the outworking of Gods power through the Spirit. We were created for high drama, communion, and service to God and his creation.

Morelands Kingdom Triangle offers a unique and provocative diagnosis of the spiritual, moral, and intellectual impoverishment of our time and the courage to envision a more preferable future. According to Morelands own admission, the Kingdom Triangle is the single best and most important book I have ever written, including the best seller Love Your God with All Your Mind. It is a manifesto clarion call to transformative action; a penetrating critique of the powers and persuasions of Western culture that have contributed to our spiritual and existential malaise. The Kingdom Triangle is for the thoughtful Christian who cares deeply about forming a receptive heart that expects the power of God and the presence of His Kingdom to in-break into individual lives and culture in a transformational way.
