God is a collector, too, whose treasures are tucked securely into the pages of his book: a golden bell here, an olive leaf there, a scarlet thread, a blood-stained cloth, a few grains of barley. Each of these saved artifacts reveals a facet of his heart and tells the story of a Father whose most precious possession is…us.
In Treasured, Leigh McLeroy considers tangible reminders of God’s active presence and guides us in discovering evidence in our own lives of his attentive love.
What a refreshing and surprising book! Until I read Treasured, I never considered how a few easily overlooked things in Scripture could have such power to help us know God more truly and intimately. With delightful prose and biblically-shaped wisdom, Leigh McLeroy leads us into a deeper encounter with our living, loving God. Dr. Mark D. Roberts, senior director and scholar-in-residence for Laity Lodge
I enjoyed watching [Leigh McLeroy] deftly polish the treasures God might keep in His memory box. She helped me notice Gods engagement with us. If God feels distant to you, Treasured will imaginatively and biblically illustrate His tenderness. Jonalyn Grace Fincher, national speaker with Soulation (www.soulation.org), and author of Ruby Slippers: How the Soul of a Woman Brings Her Home
Leigh McLeroy has interwoven her story with Gods storya rich tale of treasures and being treasured. She has done what I love in good writing: mixed sweet memories, profound observations, sharp insights, and exquisite words into a delicious narrative. “In Treasured, LeighMcLeroy invites the reader to join her quest to know God’s heart for His child. Well written, winsome, and fearlessly honest, this is a reassuring read for the soul who hungers for

When I started reading it, I was a little disappointed. I like to read a chapter a day of a devotional style book, but these chapters are so long that my kids are needing me before I can get through one. The author uses a lot of stories to make her point, where one solid story would be better than many. The book does, however, contain some good thoughts.
Jennifer @ Quiverfullfamily.com3 Stars Out Of 5Best for BeginnersMay 3, 2011Jennifer @ Quiverfullfamily.comQuality: 4Value: 3Meets Expectations: 3Treasured by Leigh McLeroy is a book of devotional insights that follows the author through some of the major stories and events of the Bible, picking out a key object from each story (a fig leaf, Abraham's knife, a smooth stone etc.) and uses those objects to illustrate God's love and care for us. McLeroy also brings her own life's experiences alongside each of her reflections on the objects she has chosen from each story.
There are thirteen short chapters that make for brisk devotional reading. A discussion guide is also included which would lend itself well to use in a small group setting. This is a book that is best for newer believers - within their first year or two of birth into God's family. Many of the stories and insights are fairy simple, and most Christians who have been in the faith for more than a couple of years will be familiar with the major points that McLeroy is making.
In all honesty, this isn't a title that I can picture myself buying for our own collection, but it might make a good gift for a new believer who is just starting to learn about God, his history, and how Christians relate to Him in their daily lives.
Garwood Mayer5 Stars Out Of 5March 1, 2010Garwood MayerDuring a period of poor health I read Treasured and felt inspired. The Scripture, followed by explanations and personal stories give me hope in time of extreme frustration. I, and my husband, are short term missionaries to Romania. We can not go back to minister to the people. Instead we have used Treasured as part of our mission work. We are passing out copies to people in need.
Heather R.4 Stars Out Of 5December 15, 2009Heather R.Treasured: Knowing God by the Things He Keeps is written by Leigh McLeroy. Her inspiration comes from a cigar box that she inherited from her Grandfather. It seemed like an odd thing to receive at first, but as she examined the items her Grandfather kept, she began to know him more. In this way she discribes the objects that God might keep and what they might symbolize about his personality and character. Objects include a fig leaf for His covering, an olive sprig for new beginnings, and many others. One of my favorite objects that might be treasured by God was a Shepherd's harp string showing that he cares about the little guy and can use unexpected people to accomplish extraordinary tasks. In Treasured, Leigh McLeroy weaves bible stories, scripture and personal experiences together to make a pleasantly layered devotional. Treasured also contains a personal reflections and discussion section that would work well for group study and application.

Tell us a little about yourself. I'm an author and speaker who has been writing all my life, but writing books "as myself" for only the last five years. "Treasured" is my fourth book - and together with "The Beautiful Ache" is my favorite so far.
What was your motivation behind this project? The idea was born when I received a battered cigar box full of random odds and ends of my grandfather's life. The box arrived a few weeks after his death, and through the tangible objects it contained, I came to experience him in a new way.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope people "get" that God can reach us through the tangible stuff of life - treasures from the pages of his book, the Bible, and treasures from our own lives too. All these things are part of His story - and of our story with Him. Considering them brings him close in a way that reaches beyond words on a page.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I collected a box of my own, filled with small objects that tell the story of my spiritual pilgrimage...an exercise that made me love God all the more! The last chapter of the book guides readers in doing the same.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? The usual suspects, I guess. The Brits: C.S. Lewis, G.K. Chesterton, Dorothy Sayers, J.R.R. Tolkien; then the theologian/philosophers: Peter Kreeft, N.T. Wright, John Piper, Eugene Peterson; novelists like Wendell Berry, Marilynne Robinson, J.K. Rowling, Madeleine L'Engle; and the poets: Emily Dickinson, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Gerard Manley Hopkins, Berry (again)...the list is so long - I love to read!
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: You can visit me at my intuitively-named website, or on Facebook at "Leigh McLeroy" and at "Treasured". Pop in and let me know what you think of the book!
