Product Description

In A Traveler's Guide to the Kingdom, James Emery White offers his reflections on places of Christian significance around the world. From The Eagle and Child Pub in Oxford, England, where C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and the other Inklings met, to the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, North Carolina, to the Dachau Concentration Camp in Dachau, Germany, White offers insight and wit on a variety of topics relevant to Christian conversation. In these pages you'll embark on not a sight-seeing trip, but a life-shaping journey into Christ's own kingdom.

Publisher's Description

Travel with James Emery White through time and space to visit places like Martin Luther's Wittenburg, where the 95 theses were nailed to a church door, or The Eagle and Child pub, where C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien and the other Inklings met to write and dream together. You'll encounter many of the important spiritual sites of the history of Christianity and get a flavor for what it was like to be in that place at that time. White then takes you even deeper, exploring key themes from these historical moments such as calling, conversion and spirituality and showing their implications for the Christian life today.

In this book White is sometimes tour guide, and theologian, and personal counselor and church historian and bible teacher. The book is a tour of 9 spiritual sites with White's insights. The transition from one role to another is not always very clear and it made the book choppy. My favorite chapters were the Iona Abbey "You are Spiritual" the Apartheid Museum "You are Called Into Community" and the Dachau Concentration Camp "You will have doubts."
