Philip Eveson gives us a concise account of the life and ministry of the Welsh evangelical preacher, Dr. Martyn Lloyd Jones. The book takes us through the key moments of his life from his early childhood, to his career as a promising physician at St Barts hospital. His conversion and subsequent call to preach are detailed for us, and then his ministry from the humble beginnings in Port Talbot, South Wales to his position of great influence at Westminster Chapel in London.In addition, the book contains lots of other useful information. There are many pictures and photographs, as well as helpful paragraphs with further details on some of the key figures and places, which were significant in the life of Lloyd-Jones (e.g. Campbell Morgan). As with all the books in the 'travel' series, it contains some helpful maps of some key towns and places.Although only a brief biography, the book gives some interesting insights about Lloyd-Jones, which may not otherwise be known. For example, I did not realise that in 1977 he was offered a CBE from the then Prime Minister James Callaghan. He turned it down, believing that it was inappropriate for ministers of the gospel to receive such rewards.Philip Eveson has given us a highly readable and informative work. If you want to start getting to know about Doctor Lloyd-Jones and his convictions I can recommend this to you. August 17, 2006
