This was an excellent tool to direct my focus and bring me to the center of what Christmas was really about. It was a very fresh and realistic approach that led me out of the modern Christmas chaos straight to the manger.

It was a touch of wonder!
I gave the book to members of family and to friends for Christmas. Had many good responses to this big little book. Thank you. And thanks to Ann Voskamp for recommending it.

John Blase describes the many characters in the reading of Jesus birth and brings them to life in his narration. He extols their doubts, fears, concerns, excitement, apprehension, rage, and hopefrom Speechless Zachariah all the way to Jerusalems Freedom Anna, the prophetess. You wont want to miss the rich characters he describes in between. What I like, in addition to his rendition of the story, are his personal prayers at the end of each characters portion. They bring the story into your own personal life to apply, as well as his own, challenging us all to make changes. Its not your ordinary Christmas Story book!I would appreciate the use of a different version of the Scriptures, but the book otherwise is a new, personal insight into Christmas.A free copy was supplied by Audra of The B&B Media Group for me to review. I review books for the purpose of encouraging others to read good fiction and non-fiction Christian books.

A short novella book featuring the human side of the birth of Christ. Each chapter leads with a verse/scene from Luke and then the human story, from the person's perspective, then a note from the author in the form of a letter to God (one wishes that the author had better penmanship). The birth of Christ has attained story-telling, mythic proportions these days and this little book brings it back to a humanized situation. A story of a family where an old man and an old woman suddenly receive the gift of a child and an unwed girl becomes pregnant, her fiance has to give up his dreams and become a father of someone else's child, and not only that but she has to give birth in a stinky stable. John Blase has succeeded in bring this story into the human perspective and turned the participants into real people rather than characters in a play.
