Publisher's Description

Until Angelina came into Samantha's life, it had been a myriad of pain, abuse, and lies. Sam allows herself to dream of a home with Angelina, when the little girl is taken away, taking Sam's hopes and dreams as well.

She prays she'll find Angelina. But doubts God even hears her. How could he with her so dirty? And how could she trust a God who she believes abandoned her? Hopefully this God wouldn't abandon Angelina.

God uses the gentle hands of another carpenter to show Samantha she was never alone. He strips back the layers of abuse that have tarnished her faith and worth to teach Sam there is mercy instead of shame, and love instead of hurt. He shows her that though it seems out of reach, she always had freedom in Christ.

Tina Pinson has a way of bringing a reader into a book and investing one's heart in her original characters and plot. Touched by Mercy drew me to the heroine Samantha, a grown survivor of childhood trauma who has made it her mission in life to help other abused children around the turn of the century. The book begins when Sam's half-sister Lorena abandons Angelina, the toddler Sam has grown to love as her own daughter. At the same time, Sam escapes an arranged marriage with a lecherous senior citizen to flee to the Sisters of Charity to help with their orphanage. Her pursuit of Angelina takes her across the country on the orphan train, adopting several of its wards in the process. My heart expanded with Sam's each time she extended her home and heart to another soul in need of love and God's redemption, all the while she pursues the revelation of God's touch of mercy in her own life.

A varied cast of characters populate Touched by Mercy, such as the other ladies who board at Sam's home, each with their own unique story. Allan, the kind young nephew of the man Sam almost had to marry, comes out west to settle in the same town as Sam. Rivalries form between jealous suitors, and intrigue unravels over the orphans' past. Every page kept me guessing if Sam would find her beloved niece, and if she would find redemption and love.

This is a story that will stay with me long after I read it. Its assuring seams of mercy, redemption and unconditional love weave through every character and every plot twist to bring a fitting conclusion to every thread.
