Half-sisters Silver and Athalie Greeves have grown up worlds apart. Silver is a humble, faith-filled young lady; Athalie is a flapper who takes after her socialite mother. When a chance visit suddenly reunites Silver and Athalie with each other and a father they’ve never known, will a true family emerge where only a family by name existed before? Terrance Bannard, the local minister, is soon taken by Silver’s beauty and spirit, but will a rising jealousy from younger sister Athalie force Silver to sacrifice love for the sake of her family?
Karen Sue ColemanCOLUMBUS, OHIOAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5I love everything Grace Livingston HillFebruary 2, 2014Karen Sue ColemanCOLUMBUS, OHIOAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I am so glad I found Grace's book when I was first saved 1973. she has characters who are committed to the Lord.
They have trails and don't do everything right but they always go back to living to glory God. I love the song she quotes. The house hold hints (cooking, clothing and decorating and the insight into having a daily relationship with God. They are old fashioned in some ways but the core of the conflict is still faced by Christians today. Treat yourself to a Grace Livingston Hill book!
Carolyn JohnsonGolden Valley, MNAge: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5DIFFERENT FOR GLH, BUT GOOD!May 5, 2012Carolyn JohnsonGolden Valley, MNAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This book is somewhat different from most of Grace Livingston Hill's books, in my opinion, but it is still good. The characters are all very interesting--including Athalie!--and it is certainly different and worthwhile to read about a male scientist who has ignored obligations to his daughters and who has lost his belief in God. In addition to Patterson Greeves, some of the characters are certainly memorable: the minister, the older daughter, Barry, the maid Anne. Longing to know what happened to Mr. Greeves, I didn't want to lay the book down. The author didn't tie up the loose ends tidily at the end, as she usually did. But it's easy for the reader to do so, with very satisfying results!
