I was not a fan of this book.
The Promises She Keeps

A singer with a terminal illness who wants to keep her memory alive. She wants people to remember her after she passes on. And music is her chance to do that. But the story has more twists and turns since the latest roller coaster ride.
I wanted to like this book and enjoy this story. But I just couldnt get into it. Over and over again, I found myself having put it down and not pick it back up for weeks. Its literally taken me months to do get through this book. And its probably collected more dust that any book I've reviewed. Time and time again I wanted to get into it, but the fantasy side of it and the often changing story that is sometimes hard to follow. I prefer a book that its a little easier and more predictable and this definately didn't fit the bill. Its one of those books that I really probably won't pick it back up ever again.

Promises to be Suspenseful
I really enjoy a book that keeps me in suspense and this book delivered! Full of more twists and turns than a roller coaster, you won't know the whole story till the very end. I highly recommend this book. It was a great read!

Review: The Promises She Keeps - Erin Healy- February 2011
Are you wanting a book that has a christian background but in more ways than not comes across something quite different ? The Promises She Keeps is the fourth book written by Erin Healy and the fourth one I have read , so I am familiar with this author's writing and I have loved her edginess that plays within her novels, however this one stood out from the rest and It could be of two reasons , the first I have been busy watching the Season One of Eastwick on my computer and because I have family members with autism and a form of cystic fibrosis, though not as bad as the characters which are portrayed in this novel. The Promises she Keeps delves into the life of five people , we have Promise - a singer who is dying from Cystic Fibrosis and her one dream in life is to make it big before she passes , the second character is a photographer named Zack - which happens to be my brothers name, though spelt differently who takes a photo of a woman in mid air and the photo draws different reactions from those in the novel, all who are captivated and want to seek the woman out , Porta - who is a seventy year old sorcereress which of course is why it reminded me of Eastwick and gives the novel that magical feeling , and the final fourth and fifth characters are twins Cameron and Chelsea. Cameron is autistic and it becomes apparent in the novel that he just has to seek out the person in the photo and it becomes an obsession for him and Chelsea - has always been Cameron's caretaker and looked out for him, but as Cameron treks on his journey, Chelsea becomes worried that his obsession may lead him into danger.
An Edgy Christian Fiction novel that touches base on a number of topics from sorcery to illness both physical and mental and the meaning of obsession and love.

The promises she Keeps
The Promises She Keeps- A fiction written by Erin Healy. Exciting and imaginative, it's a story like no others. Erin's style of writing, full of suspense and a very different approach from the other books that I've read so far.
The book is about 3 main characters: Promise, a girl who has a terminal disease, a talent for singing and a hope for fame, Porta the witch who seeks after immortality and opens an art gallery selling her collections of art pieces in which she believe to be able to give life to the specific buyers and last of all, Chase an autistic artist who draws beautiful and mysterious art pieces that in truth, holds visions for the intended parties.
At the starting of the story, it is slightly confusing as there seems to be no link between the 3 characters but slowly the story unfolds when Promise met at the crossroads in which she has to decide for herself whether she should believe in Chase or Porta; who both promises her "life" in different ways.
The story takes on a very interesting approach as it does not directly tells you of bible phrases and quotes. It sneaks them into the story and become the the lines on the script for the characters that makes it all seem even more real, more intriguing and fascinating. It touches on the scope of visions that bring a new hope, a sense of thrill and wonders as well as a miracle that all has been hoping for, and can only find in One that's Above and Holy- Jesus christ and no others.
I was reluctant to put down the book as the story sets in and the plot was written with an intention to catch the reader's attention completely. One cannot expect the happenings that follow and the ending caught me by surprise though it wasn't really the ending I would like. However, it is a very meaninful lesson learnt all throughout- Our choices are very important and the smallest of it, will indeed affect us greatly. Choose life or choose "to Live without life". Choose wisely. I will definitely recommend this book to my friends.
