You are cordially invited to the wedding of the year with the most unlikely bride and groom. Save the date . . . and say your prayers.
When funding for Lucy's non-profit job is pulled, she is determined to find out why. Enter Alex Sinclair, former professional football star and heir to Sinclair Enterprisesthe primary donor to Lucy's non-profit organization.
Both Lucy and Alex have something the other desperately wants.
Alex has it all . . . except for the votes he needs to win his bid for Congress. Despite their mutual dislike, Alex makes Lucy a proposition: pose as his fiancée in return for the money she desperately needs. Bound to a man who isn't quite what he seems, Lucy finds her heartand her futureon the line.
Save the Date is a spunky romance that will have readers laughing out loud as this dubious pair try to save their careers, their dreams . . . and maybe even a date.
Psalm 61:4 is a foundational text for this novel: "I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings." 1 Timothy 6:17 also has a message that runs throughout the course of the novel: "Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment."
Jones has a gift for humor. She intricately weaves a story in which young adult women can easily relate. Jones uses a dual point of view to help the reader connect with both of the main characters and to understand their individual feelings. She uses sarcasm and jabs to unite Alex and Lucy. The sarcastic comments eventually lead to a deeper connection between the two, which ultimately leads to an understanding of each of their lives and pasts.
Lucy is juggling a home for young women, troubles with its newest member, and trying to pay the city to keep the property. Things become even more difficult when her only option to save the girls and the home is to pose as the fiance of the man known as the "Playboy," Alex Sinclair. This would give the former NFL star a good standing in the Congressional election and get Lucy the money to pay off the home. Lucy decides to pose as the future wife of a man she does not love and, because of it, distances herself from her ex-boyfriend who is still pursuing her.
Lucy is an independent woman, but she forgets she cannot do life on her own all of the time. She forgets there are situations in which she cannot solve every problem. Luckily, she remembers God is in control and frequently goes to Him for help and guidance. She sees herself as unlovable, unworthy, and alone, which makes her think Alex will never actually love her and his motives for helping her are strictly related to his campaign. The characters learn about God through their experiences with each other and grow in their faith and understanding of Gods power as the story progresses. Lucy even learns Gods providence through the unlikeliest of people.
This novel is the perfect solution for a heart longing for a comedic romance. The mix of humor with everyday struggles drives the plot forward. Jones's clever writing style won me over in the first chapter. Loveable characters foil characters who initially seem ill-natured. I highly recommend this book to young adult women who appreciate wit and a delightful alternative to yet another unrealistic chick flick. Diana Friend, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
MargotSouth AustraliaAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Loved this modern "Mail order Bride" storyJanuary 29, 2015MargotSouth AustraliaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I love reading historical mail-order bride stories - watching as deep, abiding love grows between two strangers thrown together by circumstances. "Save the Date" is just like one of these, set in modern times. I read it n two days, and just couldn't put it down. There are so many wonderful layers to the story which is so much more than just a romance. The importance of family, forgiveness and faith; the importance of fighting Satan's lies and learning God's truth about you and living God's truth rather than Satan's lies; the importance of finding your worth in Christ and valuing others as worthy. All this and romance, humor, interesting characters and seeing how it all ended up three years later make this a new favorite for this reader. Hope you enjoy it too.
