In 1956, five young men - Nate Saint, Roger Youderian, Ed McCully, Pete Fleming, and Jim Elliot - traveled into the jungles of Ecuador to establish communication with the fierce Waorani tribe. In a nearby village, their wives waited to hear from them. The news they received - all five missionaries had been murdered - changed lives forever. Recounted by Elisabeth Elliot, best-selling author and widow of pilot Jim Elliot, using private journals, letters, and photographs, along with personal accounts of their widows, families, and colleagues, the story told in Through Gates of Splendor remains profoundly influential generations later.

"I would say, without hesitation, God used this book to change my life."
In 1956, five young men, including Elliots husband, Jim, traveled into the jungles of Ecuador to establish communication with the fierce Huaorani Tribe, a people whose only previous response to the outside world had been to attack all strangers. The mens mission combined modern technology with innate ingenuity, sparked by a passionate determination to get the gospel to those without Christ. In a nearby village, their wives waited to hear from them. The news they receivedall five missionaries had been murderedchanged lives around the world forever.
Written while she was still a missionary in South America and at the request of the mens families, Through Gates of Splendor was Elisabeth Elliots personal account of the final mission of these five courageous men. Filled with quotations from letters, material from personal journals, a wealth of photographs, and an epilogue update, this reprint of the original hardcover edition tells a lasting story of Gods grace, unconditional love, and great courage. This story inspired the 2006 box office hit End of the Spear and is sure to inspire the next generation of servant believers.

This was a good reminder of how things really are in the field. While I'm home in my comfortable home with all of my stuff, missionaries are busy reaching the lost with very little comforts.

What an amazing, true, account of people who had given the ultimate for others to come to Christ. Christ wins! I couldn't put the book down.
