Product Description

Are you in a "small" church? Well, guess what--you're the majority. With the average church in America clocking in around 75 members, there's no reason why "small" has to equal "less" when it comes to healthy, thriving youth ministry.

In this stereotype-busting examination of "smaller" (don't call 'em "small!") youth ministry, Rick Chromey and Stephanie Caro provide clear biblical and philisophical direction along with a host of practical ideas. You'll discover strengths you didn't know you had, and realize that what you thought were obstacles were only excuses.

Today's teenagers move at the rapid pace of today's society. And a smaller youth ministry has the flexibility and qualities to be nimble and relational, two qualities that will serve your teenagers better than a kickin' stage or a big budget.

Embrace your smallness and create a ministry teenagers will love to be a part of, no matter how many of you there are.

This is one of the most disrespectful books I have ever read. It is a slap in the face to any true born again Christian. I bought this book thinking it would be about how to focus God's Word for the youth of today, but it is a book about how to make the Church into a club for youth. From the introduction to the book forward, the author quotes Catholic stats and people as though they are Christian. I am currently on chapter 4 in the book and have yet to see suggested that the youth minister pray and preach the Word. It is all about bringing God down to man rather than bringing man up to God.

Let me say, I am not against using such things as texting, Facebook, etc. I am a technologist by profession, but when I am in God's house, it is His time and I turn my ringer to silent.

Chapter 1: The author suggests through a story about a boy named David that we should neither expect or encourage children to focus on God while in church. That it is more important that God is to understand that texting friends during service is just the right thing to do.

Chapter 2: If the author would have focused on how to use the Word to reach today's youths, this would not have been a bad chapter. All through the Bible, the Word of God was used to reach and change people, yet this book does not suggest that in any way.

Chapter 3: The book is supposed to be about youth ministry in the small church, yet here he says that small churches are little more than infants. I guess the early Christians were all fetuses, as they didn't even have church buildings. Anyway, I digress, he then goes on to slam a small church in Iowa because the music was horrible and the kids were allowed to be in the service. This guy doesn't have a clue what Christians are.

Chapter 4: I don't know that I can go any further in this book.
